Biography

PRO: The Titans signed Shyheim (sha-HEEM) Carter during the 2023 offseason after spending a portion of the season on team's practice squad during 2022. The 5-foot-10-inch, 194-pounder originally signed with the New York Jets as a rookie free agent following the 2020 NFL Draft, and he spent a portion of the 2020 season on the Atlanta Falcons practice squad. The Kentwood, La., native spent time on the Houston Texans practice squad in 2021 prior to being signed by the Titans. In four seasons at Alabama (2016-19), Carter saw action in 50 games with 23 starts and tallied 101 tackles, three interceptions with two returned for touchdowns, 21 passes defensed and two forced fumbles over his career.

TITANS TIDBITS:
•   Prior to being signed by the Houston Texans in 2021, Carter spent the spring working as a graduate assistant at Alabama, his alma mater, under his former head coach, Nick Saban. "I think Shyheim Carter would fit in probably one of the top two or three players on the team from a knowledge standpoint," Saban said prior to Carter's last season at Alabama. "He can answer every question in a meeting about every position...I think that's what creates a lot of diversity for him as a player, to be able to play multiple positions because he's very smart and it means something to him."
•   Nicknamed "Christmas" by his grandfather who knew Carter was going to be special when he first saw him. Carter also goes by "Nook," a version of the nickname "Nuck-Nuck" that was given to him by his mother as a baby, and shortened by former Alabama teammate DeVonta Smith.
