Biography

PRO: The Titans selected Kyle Philips in the fifth round (163rd overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft to bring quickness, sure hands and precision route running to the wide receiving corps. The 5-foot-11-inch, 189-pounder possesses the abilities to contribute heavily as a slot receiver and in the return game. As a rookie, he posted eight receptions for 78 yards and averaged 12.4 yards on five punt returns in four games before ending the season on injured reserve. A native of San Marcos, Calif., Philips spent four seasons at UCLA, where he played in 34 games with 23 starts.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
•   As a junior at UCLA in 2021, Philips led the Bruins in receptions (59), receiving yards (739) and receiving touchdowns (10). He also led the team in punt returns (nine) and punt return average (22.6).
•   As a redshirt freshman in 2019, he posted a career-high 60 receptions for 681 yards and five touchdowns. 

TITANS TIDBITS:
•   Philips' maternal grandfather was Japanese. His family was placed in the Japanese internment camps during World War II.
•   His best friend is Terrell Burgess, a teammate at San Marcos (Calif.) High School and safety with the Los Angeles Rams.  
•   Philips claims one of his hidden talents is badminton, and he also considers himself an excellent barbecue grillmaster.
•   He lists "The Office" as his favorite TV show to binge and "Step Brothers" as his favorite movie. 

CAREER TRANSACTIONS:
•   The San Marcos, Calif., native was selected by the Titans in the fifth round (163rd overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft.

COLLEGE:
•   In four years at UCLA, he started 23 of his 34 games and totaled 163 receptions for 1,821 yards and 17 touchdowns. Added 25 punt returns for 496 yards (19.8 avg.) with two touchdowns. Posted at least one reception in 32 of his 34 career games, including a reception streak of 29 games to end his career. Finished his career fourth on the all-time UCLA career receptions list. Became the first Bruin to lead the team in receptions in three straight seasons since Craig Bragg from 2001 to 2004.
•   As a junior (2021), started nine of his 11 games played and caught 59 passes for 739 yards and 10 touchdowns. Led Pac-12 receivers with 10 touchdown catches. Ranked second in the Pac-12 in receiving yards per game (67.18) and third in the league in receptions per game average (5.36). Averaged 22.6 yards per punt return, including an 82-yard touchdown to help UCLA rate No. 1 in the NCAA in punt returns as a team. Named first-team All-Pac-12 by the league coaches and Phil Steele. Selected to the second-team All-Pac-12 team as a kick returner by league coaches and Phil Steele. Named second-team All-Pac-12 as a receiver/returner by Associated Press and PFF.
•   As a sophomore (2020), saw action in all seven games, with six starts during a season that was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. His 38 catches led the team and pushed him over the 100-career catch mark (27th Bruin to do so). Returned six punts for 77 yards (12.8 avg.). Named honorable mention All-Pac-12 by the league coaches and second-team All-Pac-12 by PFF and Phil Steele.
•   As a redshirt freshman (2019), saw action in all 12 games, with eight starts. Totaled a career-high 60 receptions for 681 yards and five touchdowns. His 60 catches were the most ever by a freshman player at UCLA (redshirt or true). Became the first Bruin redshirt freshman to lead the team in receptions since 2001 (Craig Bragg). Totaled three or more catches in nine games. Had 10 catches at Stanford and his two 10-plus catch efforts rank tied for third on the all-time UCLA list (behind only J.J. Stokes and Jordan Lasley, who each had three). Helped UCLA rate second in the nation in punt return average with a 22.5 yards per return mark.
•   As a freshman (2018), redshirted after seeing action as a reserve receiver and special teams performer in the first four games of the season.
•   Graduated from UCLA in 2021 with a degree in political science.

PERSONAL: 
•   Married to Sierra.
•   Attended San Marcos (Calif.) High School, where he was as a four-star recruit by ESPN.com and 247 Sports. He was rated 247's No. 43 recruit in the state of California and No. 208 in the nation, while rising to No. 263 on the ESPN 300 national list.
•   As a high school senior in 2017, he produced 59 receptions for 1,318 yards and 10 touchdowns, and he was credited with 26 tackles and a pair of interceptions on defense.
•   As a high school junior, he caught 65 passes for 909 yards and 11 touchdowns.
•   Also participated on his high school's track and field team.
•   The son of Michael and Christie Philips, he has an older sister (McKenzie) and a brother-in-law (Trevor).
