NASHVILLE – The Titans just wrapped up practice on Tuesday at Vanderbilt Football Health Center.
Here's a look at the biggest developments from the day:
-Fernando Carmona has been working with the 1s at right guard since his surge during training camp.
On Tuesday, coach Robert Saleh named Carmona the starter for the team's Week 1 contest against the Jets.
"Fernando is going to start at right guard," Saleh said. "I thought he's done an outstanding job. We gave him the opportunity to step in there and show what he can do, and when he got in that spot he just wouldn't relent. Credit to him, he is a mauler, he is a fighter … He has a lot of work to do, and he is going to see some of the best d-tackles in all of football. But I do think he is up for the challenge."
-Rookie receiver Carnell Tate and tight end David Martin-Robinson were not spotted on the field during the stretch period of today's practice.
Saleh said Tate is working through some stiffness, while Martin-Robinson had some soreness after the last preseason game, so the team is giving him extra time to recover.
-Saleh said the Titans are simulating an in-week schedule, so the team will practice three days this week to introduce the Jets to them.
-Saleh, who previously served as head coach of the New York Jets, said, "New York is still a special place, and gave me my first opportunity as a head coach. … I am forever grateful for the opportunity they gave me – I don't hold grudges."
-Rookie defensive end Keldric Faulk was back at practice on Tuesday after missing time with a shoulder injury.
-The Titans signed DB Shemar Bartholomew to the team's practice squad on Tuesday, and waived DB Mario Goodrich from the practice squad.
-The five new Titans have been assigned numbers: S Terrell Burgess (38), CB Melvin Smith Jr. (39), LB Owen Pappoe (40), T James Hudson III (59) and DT Nazir Stackhouse (93).
Safety Tony Adams has switched to No. 29.
