Quick Hits on the Titans From Thursday of Ravens Week

quick-hits-10-01-26

NASHVILLE – The Titans returned to the practice field on Thursday at Vanderbilt Health Football Center to continue preparations for Sunday's game at the Baltimore Ravens.

Here's a look at today's developments:

-Titans safety Kevin Winston Jr. is a native of Columbia, Maryland, which is just down the road from Baltimore.

Winston played in high school at DeMatha Catholic, where he became a top prospect.

On Sunday, Winston will return to his old stomping grounds when the Titans face the Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium.

"Back to Maryland, that's home for me," Winston said on Thursday. "I'm looking forward to it. But I am taking it as just another game, another opportunity to go out there and get a win and that's what we have to go out there and do."

Winston, who said he has extra family and friends coming to the game, was a Ravens and Commanders fan growing up. He always liked Ray Lews and Ed Reed, among others, he said.

On Sunday, he'll face the current Ravens stars.

Winston knows the challenge.

"All their weapons," Winston said. "Derrick Henry is a great running back obviously, a big guy, a big back who has deceiving speed, and a stiff arm. And Lamar Jackson, he is a great quarterback. Great arm, great ability to extend plays. We have to go out there and try to contain and respect everything."

From a defensive standpoint, Winston said the unit has done a good job through three games, but knows there's room for improvement.

"We have done a lot of great thing, but there are small things we have to be better at, and that will determine better results for us," Winston said. "Getting off the field on third down, the red zone … There's always stuff we can get better at and we have to make sure we focus on that day in and day out."

Here's a clip of Winston in the locker room on Thursday:

-The Titans haven't revealed the starter at right guard, following injuries to Fernando Carmona and Jackson Slater.

Both Carmona and Slater were placed on Injured Reserve on Tuesday.

The team promoted Garrett Dellinger to the active roster earlier in the week, where he joined Atonio Mafi on the depth chart.

The Titans also have guard Drew Moss on the depth chart, along with rookie Pat Coogan, who is listed as the back-up center.

I chatted with center Austin Schlottmann on Thursday about the group, and the challenge on Sunday.

Here's a clip of Schlottmann:

-Before practice, Titans head coach Robert Saleh recognized long-time sports writer Teresa Walker, who is officially retiring from the Associated Press.

Saleh presented Walker with a game ball, and a jersey with the No.30, for her years covering the franchise.

And now for all the injury updates:

-Defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers (back) returned to practice on Thursday on a limited basis.

-Running back Tony Pollard (foot) returned to practice on Thursday, and was a full participant.

-Runing back Tyjae Spears (ankle) returned to practice on Thursday on a limited basis.

-Safety Kevin Winston (shoulder) was added to the Injury Report, but he was a full participant.

-The Titans will return to practice on Friday to continue preparations for Sunday's game at the Ravens.
