NASHVILLE – The Titans returned to the practice field on Wednesday at Vanderbilt Health Football Center to continue preparations for Sunday's game at the Baltimore Ravens.
Here's a look at today's developments:
-Defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons was teammates – and close friends – with running back Derrick Henry during their time together with the Titans.
The two used to take the field for games side-by-side, and they were the leaders on each side of the football during some of the franchise's best moments.
The two remain friends, but this Sunday, Simmons will face Henry on the field when the Titans play the Ravens, and things will be more serious.
"Everybody knows the respect I have for Derrick, and what he has done for this franchise," Simmons said of Henry. "But he's on the other side now. Our job is to go in there and defeat the run game. … We have to make him jump cut, stutter, go east and west. If he goes downhill, bad things happen to the defense, which we all know.
"Of course, it's my first time playing against him. … If you are not in the two-tone blue, in this new Titans uniform, it don't really matter. … I'm sure he's had this game circled."
-The Titans placed guards Fernando Carmona and Jackson Slater on Injured Reserve on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Coach Robert Saleh said both will undergo surgery.
"Hopefully," Saleh said. "we get them back later in the year."
-Saleh was not willing to reveal who will start at right guard this Sunday.
On Tuesday, the team promoted Garrett Dellinger to the active roster, where he joined Atonio Mafi on the depth chart.
The Titans also have guard Drew Moss on the practice squad. Rookie Pat Coogan is on the team's 53-man roster, listed as the back-up center.
"I'm going to hold that one close to the vest," Saleh said. "But every option is on the table."
-Titans safety Amani Hooker will play in his 100th career game on Sunday.
Hooker discussed the milestone, and what it will be like facing Henry.
