Titans-Chiefs Week 16 Postgame Notes

TEAM NOTES

  • The Titans defeated the Chiefs 26-9 to pick up their third win of the season. They will play their final home game of the campaign next Sunday (Dec. 28) against the New Orleans Saints, followed by their 2025 season finale at Jacksonville in Week 18.
  • The Titans outgained the Chiefs 376 yards to 133 yards. The Titans' yardage differential of 243 yards was their best in a game since outgaining Detroit by 302 yards (456-154) on Thanksgiving in 2008 (Nov. 27).
  • The Titans did not commit a turnover for the second consecutive game. In their seven games since Week 9, the Titans have committed four turnovers. At the conclusion of the early afternoon games on Sunday, Dec. 21, that total tied for the third-fewest in the NFL.
  • The Titans 17-point margin of victory was their best since a 19-point winning margin (31-12) at Miami on Sept. 30, 2024.
  • The Titans possessed the ball for a season-best 38 minutes and 1 second, compared with 21:59 by the Chiefs.
  • Won at Nissan Stadium for the first time since Nov. 3, 2024 against New England.

TEAM NOTES – OFFENSE

  • The Titans totaled 376 yards on offense, their best output since going for 400 yards against New England on Nov. 3, 2024.
  • The offense's 22 total first downs were a season high through 15 games.
  • The rushing attack provided 164 yards against the Chiefs, marking the third consecutive game with at least 136 rushing yards.
  • The Titans offense scored touchdowns on three of its four red-zone drives. From Week 10 to Week 16, the Titans scored touchdowns on 10 of their 14 red-zone drives, with their 71.4 percent success rate ranking second in the NFL behind the Atlanta Falcons (16-21, 76.2 percent) through the early afternoon contests of Sunday, Dec. 21.
  • The Titans scored 26 points against the Chiefs to give them 24 or more points four times in a five-game span.

TEAM NOTES – DEFENSE

  • The Titans defense held the Chiefs to just 133 yards on offense, the fewest by a Titans opponent since the Pittsburgh Steelers had 127 total yards on Sept. 19, 2010. The Chiefs had 51 rushing yards and 82 net passing yards in the contest.
  • Kansas City scored nine points on three field goals, marking the first time the Titans did not allow an opponent to reach the end zone since a 27-3 victory over Cincinnati on Oct. 1, 2023. The Chiefs' nine points also were the fewest by a Titans opponent since the same game against the Bengals.
  • The Titans held the Chiefs to just one third down conversion on nine attempts. The 11.1 percent third-down conversion rate was the best for the Titans defense since Oct. 9, 2022 at Washington, when the Commanders converted 9.1 percent (one-of-11).
  • Kansas City's nine first downs were the fewest by a Titans opponent since the Jacksonville Jaguars totaled nine first downs against the Titans on Dec. 12, 2021.
  • The Titans defense began the game by forcing two consecutive three-and-outs.
  • The Titans held the Chiefs scoreless in the first quarter. It was the fifth time in 2025 the Titans defense shut out its opponent in the opening stanza. The defense has only allowed touchdowns in the first quarter in three games in 2025.
  • The Titans defense limited the Chiefs to 100 yards in the first half. It was the second fewest by a Titans opponent in the first half in 2025 (55 by Las Vegas on Oct. 12).
  • The Titans defense limited the Chiefs to 33 total yards in the second half. That was the third-fewest by a Titans opponent in the second half of any game since the beginning of the 1999 season, behind 28 yards by Dallas in the second half on Dec. 25, 2000 and 32 yards by Pittsburgh in the second half on Sept. 19, 2010.
  • In the second quarter, the Titans scored their first safety of the season when Jeffery Simmons broke through the line and tackled Kareem Hunt in the end zone to give Tennessee a 2-0 lead. It was the team's first safety since Nov. 24, 2024 at Houston when Harold Landry III sacked C.J. Stroud in the end zone. It was also the 13th safety scored by the team in the franchise's "Titans era" (1999 to present).
  • The Titans racked up four sacks, marking their fourth game of the season with at least four sacks.

WR ELIC AYOMANOR

  • Totaled a team-high 58 yards on three receptions.
  • Caught a 25-yard pass from Cam Ward on a touchdown drive in the third quarter.
  • Converted a third-and-10 in the fourth quarter with a 24-yard reception to set up a touchdown on the next play.
  • Has caught at least one pass in all 14 games in which he has participated as a rookie.

CB DARRELL BAKER JR.

  • Broke up a pass intended for Juju Smith-Schuster on third down in the second quarter.

LB CODY BARTON

  • Notched two tackles and a pass defensed to extend his team-leading total to 10 passes defensed on the season.
  • Added a tackle.

S KENDELL BROOKS

  • Logged his first NFL start at safety.
  • Ranked third on the team with four tackles.

WR CHIMERE DIKE

  • Caught three passes for 40 yards and a touchdown.
  • Added five kickoff returns for 122 yards (24.4 avg.) and three punt returns for 23 yards (7.7 avg.).
  • On the opening series of the second half, he caught a 30-yard pass and finished the drive with a one-yard touchdown reception. It was his team-leading fourth touchdown reception of his rookie campaign.
  • Joined A.J. Brown (nine touchdowns in 2019), Chris Johnson (10 in 2008) and Vince Young (seven in 2006) as the only franchise rookies since the start of the 1999 season with at least six total touchdowns.
  • With a league-high 2,269 all-purpose yards in 2025, he surpassed Derrick Henry's 2,141 all-purpose yards in 2020 for third place in franchise history. Dike's total resides behind only Derrick Mason's 2,690 all-purpose yards in 2000 and Chris Johnson's 2,509 in 2009.
  • With a league-high 1,535 kickoff return yards in 2025, he moved past Marc Mariani (1,530 in 2010) to set the record for the highest single-season total in franchise history.
  • His 1,535 kickoff return yards are the most in the NFL in a season since Arizona's LaRod Stephens-Howling had 1,548 in 2010.

CB KEMON HALL

  • Ranked second on the team with a career-high five tackles, including two stops for loss.

OLB JAYLEN HARRELL

  • Recorded his first career strip-sack, jarring the ball from Chris Oladokun in the third quarter (fumble recovered by the Chiefs). It was his second straight game with a sack and his fourth in the last six games with at least a half-sack.
  • He now has three sacks on the season.

P JOHNNY HEKKER

  • Punted three times for a 47.7-yard gross average and a 37.3-yard net average with two punts inside the 20.
  • In the first quarter, he pinned the Chiefs on their six-yard line with a 47-yard punt – his 397th career punt inside the 20 (later added his 398th). In doing so, he moved past former Titan Brett Kern (396) for eighth place in the NFL for career punts inside the 20 since the statistic has been tracked beginning in 1976.
  • His 46-yarder in the second quarter resulted in Kansas City starting from their three-yard line after a Chiefs penalty.

TE GUNNAR HELM

  • Contributed two receptions for nine yards.
  • Increased his rookie season totals to 43 receptions for 356 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Has at least one reception in all 15 games to begin his career.
  • Joined running back Tyjae Spears (2023), wide receiver A.J. Brown (2019) and running back Chris Johnson (2008) as the franchise's only rookies in the "Titans era" (1999 to present) with at least one reception in each of the team's first 15 games of their rookie season.
  • Joined Cleveland rookie Harold Fannin Jr. as the NFL's only rookie tight ends with at least one reception in all 15 of his team's games in 2025. Indianapolis' Tyler Warren (at San Francisco on Monday, Dec. 22) could also accomplish the feat.

S AMANI HOOKER

  • Recorded three tackles.

WR VAN JEFFERSON

  • Contributed a pair of receptions for 24 total yards.

OLB TRUMAN JONES

  • In the fourth quarter, he combined with Jihad Ward for a 14-yard sack of Chris Oladokun. On the next play, he recorded the first solo sack of his career for a nine-yard loss.
  • Finished with two tackles and 1.5 sacks.
  • Added a special teams tackle.

TE CHIG OKONKWO

  • Led the team with six receptions for 44 yards, including a touchdown.
  • On a seven-yard pass from Cam Ward in the second quarter, he notched his first touchdown reception of 2025 and the seventh touchdown catch of his career.
  • With 1,960 career receiving yards, he exceeded Bob McLeod's total (1,926) for sixth place in franchise history among tight ends.
  • With 51 receptions in 2025, he joined Frank Wycheck (six consecutive seasons) and Delanie Walker (five) as the only tight ends in franchise history to record at least 50 receptions in three consecutive seasons.

RB TONY POLLARD

  • Rushed for 102 yards on 21 carries for an average of 4.9 yards per attempt.
  • Notched his 13th career 100-yard rushing game.
  • Marked the first time in his career with 100 rushing yards in three consecutive games. The last Titans player to accomplish the feat prior to Pollard was Derrick Henry from Dec. 11-24, 2022.
  • Became the third NFL player in 2025, along with Buffalo's James Cook (three games) and Miami's De'Von Achane (three), to record three consecutive 100-yard rushing games.
  • With 949 rushing yards and two games remaining in 2025, he is 51 yards away from his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard season.

DT JEFFERY SIMMONS

  • Finished with three tackles, two tackles for loss, two passes defensed and a safety.
  • Tackled running back Kareem Hunt in the end zone for a safety in the second quarter. It was Simmons' first career safety and the first safety the Titans scored since Harold Landry III at Houston on Nov. 24, 2024.
  • Increased his total on the season to 16 tackles for loss, which ties Jason Babin (16 in 2010) for the most by a Titans player in any season since 2008.
  • Joined Rocky Boiman (2003), Willie Rodgers (1975) and Doug Cline (1961) as the only players in franchise history with a safety and a touchdown in the same season.

K JOEY SLYE

  • Made a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter and was also successful on all three extra point attempts.

RB TYJAE SPEARS

  • Registered a team-high 105 scrimmage yards, which was the second-best total of his career and his best of 2025 through 15 games.
  • Finished second on the team with 52 rushing yards on 13 carries and also finished second on the team with 53 receiving yards on five catches.
  • Took a screen pass 34 yards in the second quarter for the third-longest reception of his career. Later on the same drive, he converted a third-and-two with an 11-yard run and then helped set up a touchdown with a 15-yard run.
  • In the fourth quarter, he rushed for his second touchdown of the season and the eighth rushing touchdown of his career on a four-yard run.

NT T'VONDRE SWEAT

  • Recorded two tackles.

QB CAM WARD

  • Completed 21-of-28 passes for 228 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.
  • His 122.3 passer rating was his best through 15 NFL games. It was his second consecutive game with a passer rating above 100.
  • His 122.3 passer rating was the franchise's third best since 1970 by a rookie quarterback with at least 20 attempts in a game. In that span, only Marcus Mariota (135.7 at New Orleans on Nov. 8 ,2015), Will Levis (130.5 vs. Atlanta on Oct. 29, 2023) and Vince Young (127.7 at Buffalo on Dec. 24, 2006) fared better with 20-plus attempts.
  • Recorded his third consecutive game with two touchdown passes. With his 13th touchdown pass of the season, a one-yarder to Chimere Dike in the third quarter, he moved past Vince Young (12 in 2006) for the second-most in franchise history by a rookie, behind only Marcus Mariota (19 in 2015).
  • Threw a screen pass to Tyjae Spears that went 34 yards in the second quarter, and later on the same drive, he was credited with a seven-yard touchdown pass to Chig Okonkwo.
  • On the opening series of the second half, he completed a 25-yard pass to Elic Ayomanor, a 30-yard pass to Chimere Dike and a one-yard touchdown pass to Dike.
  • Converted a third-and-10 in the fourth quarter with a 24-yard completion to Elic Ayomanor to set up a touchdown on the next play.
  • With 2,866 passing yards in 2025, he set the record for the most passing yards in franchise history by a rookie quarterback. Marcus Mariota previously held the mark with 2,818 passing yards in 2015.

OLB JIHAD WARD

  • Combined with Truman Jones for a half sack in the fourth quarter, matching his career high for a season with five sacks (2023).

LB JAMES WILLIAMS SR.

  • Logged his second career start and his first in 2025.
  • Led the team with a career-best nine tackles.
  • Brought down quarterback Chris Oladokun for a loss of 11 yards on third down in the fourth quarter to notch his first career sack.

The Tennessee Titans take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 16 at Nissan Stadium.
