Titans-49ers Preseason Week 1 Postgame Notes

TEAM NOTES

  • The Titans won their opening game of the preseason at San Francisco by a final score of 19-13.
  • The game marked the first preseason game under new Titans head coach Robert Saleh, who was hired in January.
  • The win gave the Titans two consecutive preseason victories over San Francisco (2024).
  • The Titans captains for the game were quarterback Cam Ward, defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and long snapper Morgan Cox.
  • Seven of the team's eight draft picks received their first NFL preseason experience, with the exception being sixth-round defensive tackle Jackie Marshall. Two draft picks started: first-round defensive end Keldric Faulk and fifth-round guard Fernando Carmona Jr.
  • Among the 22 starters for the Titans, eight were newcomers to the team in 2026: outside linebackers Keldric Faulk and Jermaine Johnson II; defensive tackle Solomon Thomas; cornerbacks Alontae Taylor and Cor'Dale Flott; wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson; center Austin Schlottmann; and right guard Fernando Carmona Jr.
  • The Titans did not commit a turnover in the contest.

TEAM NOTES – OFFENSE

  • The starting offense for the Titans included quarterback Cam Ward; running back Tony Pollard; tight end Gunnar Helm; wide receivers Calvin Ridley, Elic Ayomanor and Wan'Dale Robinson; left tackle Dan Moore Jr.; left guard Peter Skoronski; center Austin Schlottmann; right guard Fernando Carmona Jr.; and right tackle JC Latham. Carmona was the lone rookie starter on offense.
  • Ward and the majority of the starting offense played three series.
  • After a San Francisco punt to open the game, Cam Ward and the Titans offense marched 90 yards in 11 plays to take an early 7-0 lead on the 49ers. Of the six first downs gained on the drive, three came on converted third downs. First, an 18-yard reception by Calvin Ridley on third-and-three, then a 16-yard reception by Gunnar Helm on third-and-10, and finally a five-yard touchdown run by Tony Pollard on third-and-three.
  • The Titans offense accounted for 167 net rushing yards on 31 attempts as a team. Leading rusher Julius Chestnut popped a 34-yard run in the fourth quarter, the last of three runs of at least 12 yards by the team (Tyjae Spears, 25; Tony Pollard, 12).
  • Tennessee averaged 5.4 yards per carry and outrushed San Francisco by 83 yards (SF – 84 net rushing yards). Nine of the Titans' first downs and the team's lone touchdown came on the ground.

TEAM NOTES – DEFENSE

  • The starting defense for the Titans included defensive ends Keldric Faulk and Jermaine Johnson II; defensive tackles Jeffery Simmons and Solomon Thomas; linebackers Cody Barton and Cedric Gray; safeties Amani Hooker and Kevin Winston Jr.; and cornerbacks Alontae Taylor, Cor'Dale Flott and Marcus Harris.  Faulk was the lone rookie starter from the group.
  • Most of the Titans starting defense was on the field for two-plus series. The unit forced punts on the first two series before the 49ers scored a touchdown on their third drive.
  • The Titans defense limited the 49ers to 84 rushing yards on 28 attempts for an average of 3.0 yards per carry.
  • Titans defenders combined for two sacks and five tackles for loss.

WR ELIC AYOMANOR

  • Started at wide receiver.

LB CODY BARTON

  • Started and tallied three tackles, including a tackle for loss.

DB DERRICK CANTEEN

  • Tied for the team lead with five tackles.

G FERNANDO CARMONA JR.

  • Started at guard in his rookie preseason debut.

RB MICHAEL CARTER

  • Made his Titans preseason debut.
  • Recorded a six-yard rushing attempt.
  • Added a kickoff return for 30 yards.

RB JULIUS CHESTNUT

  • Entered the game on offense in the second half.
  • Recorded a team-long 34-yard carry in the fourth quarter.
  • Finished with a team-high 47 rushing yards on five carries.

WR CHIMERE DIKE

  • Notched a reception from Mitchell Trubisky for 17 yards in the second quarter.

DE KELDRIC FAULK

  • Started at defensive end in his rookie preseason debut.
  • Totaled three tackles.

CB COR'DALE FLOTT

  • Started in his Titans preseason debut and tied for the team lead with five tackles.

S ERICK HALLETT II

  • Led the Titans with two special teams tackles.

TE GUNNAR HELM

  • Started at tight end.
  • Notched a 16-yard reception from Cam Ward on third-and-10 to earn a new set of downs and extend the Titans' opening offensive possession.

DE MALIK HERRING

  • Registered two tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass defensed.

DL JALYN HOLMES

  • Credited with a 14-yard sack of Adrian Martinez on third down to help stall a 49ers drive late in the second quarter.
  • Totaled three tackles.

QB HENDON HOOKER

  • Made his Titans preseason debut.
  • Entered the game at quarterback in the fourth quarter, completing two of three passes for 17 yards.

DT TIMMY HORNE

  • In the third quarter, he combined with Mani Powell for an eight-yard sack of Adrian Martinez.

WR COURTNEY JACKSON

  • Made his rookie preseason debut.
  • Recorded a seven-yard reception in the fourth quarter.
  • Returned one kickoff for 23 yards and also fielded one punt.

DB NAZEEH JOHNSON

  • Tied for the team lead with five tackles.

QB WILL LEVIS

  • Entered the game at quarterback in the third quarter. Finished with 42 passing yards, completing three-of-eight attempts.
  • Completed a 17-yard pass to David Martin-Robinson in the third quarter.
  • Added three rushing attempts for 16 yards.

TE DAVID MARTIN-ROBINSON

  • Recorded a 17-yard reception on a pass from Will Levis in the third quarter.

DE OLUWAFEMI OLADEJO

  • Tied for the team lead with five tackles and led the defense with two tackles for loss.

WR BRYCE OLIVER

  • Entered the game on offense in the second half.
  • Notched a 12-yard reception in the fourth quarter.

RB TONY POLLARD

  • Started at running back.
  • Began the contest's scoring with a five-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
  • Finished with 22 rushing yards on four carries.

LB MANI POWELL

  • In the third quarter, he combined with Timmy Horne for an eight-yard sack of Adrian Martinez.
  • Totaled four tackles.

S JERRICK REED II

  • Tied for the team lead with five tackles.

WR XAVIER RESTREPO

  • Recorded a reception for six yards in the second quarter.

WR CALVIN RIDLEY

  • Started at wide receiver.
  • Helped the Titans move the chains on third-and-three in the first quarter with a 18-yard reception from Cam Ward.

WR WAN'DALE ROBINSON

  • Started in his Titans preseason debut.
  • Led the team with two receptions for 19 yards.

C AUSTIN SCHLOTTMANN

  • Started in his Titans preseason debut.

RB NICK SINGLETON

  • Made his rookie preseason debut.
  • Rushed for 31 yards on eight carries.

K JOEY SLYE

  • Made all four field goals, connecting on attempts from 39, 55, 53 and 58 yards.
  • Made a 39-yarder with 1:21 on the clock in the second quarter and then ended the first half with a 55-yarder as time expired.
  • Added a 53-yarder in the third quarter and a 58-yarder in the fourth quarter.
  • It was his second preseason game in two seasons with the Titans in which he made at least two field goals of 50-plus yards. He also accomplished the feat on Aug. 22, 2025 against Minnesota.
  • Since 2017, the only other NFL kicker to make at least three field goals of 50-plus yards in a preseason game is Graham Gano, who accomplished the feat for the New York Giants at Buffalo on Aug. 9, 2025.

RB TYJAE SPEARS

  • Recorded 35 rushing yards on four attempts, including a 25-yard run on the team's opening drive.
  • Also logged one reception for four yards.

DT KHALEN SAUNDERS

  • Notched three tackles, including a tackle for loss.

WR CARNELL TATE

  • Made his rookie preseason debut.

P TOMMY TOWNSEND

  • Made his Titans preseason debut.
  • Averaged 48.8 gross yards and 45.2 net yards on five punts with two punts placed inside the 20.
  • Recorded a 58-yard punt in the third quarter.

QB MITCHELL TRUBISKY

  • Made his Titans preseason debut.
  • Entered the game at quarterback in the second quarter.
  • Completed two of three passes for 23 yards.
  • Connected with Chimere Dike for a 17-yard completion.

QB CAM WARD

  • Started at quarterback and completed 5-of-12 pass attempts for 57 yards.
  • Converted two third downs through the air on Tennessee's opening drive. Ward connected with Calvin Ridley for a 18-yard gain on third-and-three, and later with Gunnar Helm for a gain of 16 on third-and-10. The drive ended with a touchdown and a 7-0 Titans advantage.
  • Added a two-yard rush attempt.
