Titans-Chargers Week 9 Postgame Notes

TEAM NOTES

  • The Titans completed their ninth game of the season and will have a bye in Week 10. Following the bye, they will play three consecutive home games: Nov. 16 against Houston, Nov. 23 against Seattle and Nov. 30 against Jacksonville.
  • With an interception return for a touchdown by Cody Barton and a punt return touchdown by Chimere Dike against the Chargers, the Titans registered their first game with multiple return touchdowns since they totaled four against Jacksonville on Dec. 30, 2012.
  • The Titans' 17 points in the first half were the most by the team in any half since the Titans scored 23 in second half at Indianapolis on Dec. 22, 2024.
  • The Titans' 14 points in the first quarter were their most in the opening quarter since Dec. 15, 2024 against Cincinnati (14).
  • Safety Kevin Winston Jr. became the seventh rookie to register at least one start in 2025.
  • For the third time in 2025, nine rookies participated in the game for the Titans, tying their season high. It was the seventh time in nine games that at least eight rookies played for the team.
  • For the first time in 2025, the Titans did not commit a turnover. With a plus-one turnover margin, they won the turnover battle for the third time in 2025.
  • After being penalized seven times in the first half, the Titans did not have any penalties enforced against them in the second half.
  • Two players who were added to the roster during the week made their Titans debut: first-year outside linebacker Truman Jones and rookie cornerback Micah Robinson. It was Robinson's NFL debut. Jones and Robinson became the 66th and 67th players to participate in a game for the Titans in 2025.
  • The Titans defense totaled six sacks against the Chargers, accumulating a season high and the most since a six-sack performance against Atlanta on Oct. 29, 2023.
  • With at least three sacks in three consecutive games, the Titans defense recorded its longest such streak since it had five straight games with three-plus sacks from Nov. 26-Dec. 24, 2023.
  • The Titans defense recorded the team's sixth game since 1970 with at least six sacks and an interception return for a touchdown. The last time it happened was Sept. 18, 2005 against Baltimore.
  • Through the early afternoon games of Nov. 2, the Titans' 13 sacks from Week 7 to Week 9 led the NFL.

WR ELIC AYOMANOR

  • Led the team with 46 receiving yards on three catches (tied for team lead).
  • Converted a third-and-seven with a 29-yard reception in the third quarter.

CB DARRELL BAKER JR.

  • Posted four tackles and a pass defensed.

LB CODY BARTON

  • In the first quarter, he returned an interception 24 yards for a touchdown. It was Barton's team-leading third interception of the season, his second career defensive touchdown and his first career pick-six.
  • Barton's score was the Titans' first defensive touchdown of the season and their first interception return score since Elijah Molden returned an interception 44 yards for a touchdown against Houston on Dec. 17, 2023.
  • Also finished third on the team with six tackles.

S QUANDRE DIGGS

  • Finished fourth on the defense with five tackles.

WR CHIMERE DIKE

  • Totaled 220 all-purpose yards, including three punt returns for 98 yards, four kickoff returns for 117 yards and one reception for five yards.
  • Returned a punt 67 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter—the team's first punt return touchdown since Darius Reynaud had two against Jacksonville on Dec. 30, 2012 and the team's first special teams return score (punt or kickoff) since A.J. Brown's kickoff return touchdown at Indianapolis on Nov. 29, 2020.
  • Became the third rookie in franchise history to reach 1,000 kickoff return yards in a season (1,108), joining Pacman Jones (1,127 in 2005) and Marc Mariani (1,530 in 2010). Dike secured the ninth overall individual season in franchise history with 1,000 kickoff return yards.
  • His 98 yards on three punt returns made up the highest punt return yardage total in a game by a Titans player since Darius Reynaud's franchise-record 160 vs. Jacksonville on Dec. 30, 2012.
  • Became the first Titans rookie in the team's "Titans era" (1999 to present) to log multiple games with at least 200 all-purpose yards. He became the NFL's first rookie to do so since Cincinnati's Ja'Marr Chase in 2021.

LB CEDRIC GRAY

  • Led the team with 16 tackles, including a sack.
  • Notched his first career sack by bringing down Justin Herbert for a seven-yard loss in the fourth quarter.
  • Increased his total to a team-leading 87 tackles in 2025. In doing so, he became the team's fourth player since 2000 to reach the mark in the first nine games of a season (GSIS tackle statistics), joining Keith Bulluck (81 in 2006), Stephen Tulloch (87 in 2010) and Azeez Al-Shaair (89 in 2023).
  • Registered his second game of 2025 with at least 16 tackles, after tallying 17 at Houston on Sept. 28. Since 2000, Gray is the first Titans player to have multiple games in a season with at least 16 tackles (GSIS tackle statistics). Only five Titans defenders in that span had previously notched one game with 16-plus tackles.
  • Became the NFL's first player in 2025 to register multiple games with 16 or more tackles.
  • Through the early afternoon games of Nov. 2, his 87 tackles in 2025 ranked second in the NFL behind Miami's Jordyn Brooks' 93 tackles.

CB MARCUS HARRIS

  • Credited with a tackle and a pass defensed.

P JOHNNY HEKKER

  • Punted five times for a 37.4-yard average (35.6 net average) with two punts placed inside the 20.

TE GUNNAR HELM

  • Picked up 15 yards on a reception in the fourth quarter.

S AMANI HOOKER

  • Finished second on the defense with seven tackles.

WR VAN JEFFERSON

  • Caught a 21-yard pass in the first quarter.

OLB DRE'MONT JONES

  • Totaled four tackles, 1.5 sacks and four quarterback hits.
  • Logged his seventh career game with at least 1.5 sacks.
  • Sacked Justin Herbert in the first quarter to notch his fourth consecutive contest with a sack. He is the first Titan with such a streak since Harold Landry III (five games) and Denico Autry (four games) in 2021.
  • Combined with Jihad Ward for a sack in the third quarter.
  • Increased his season total to 4.5 sacks, which tied Jeffery Simmons for the team lead.
  • Secured his sixth consecutive season with at least four sacks.

OLB TRUMAN JONES

  • Made his Titans debut.

DE SEBASTIAN JOSEPH-DAY

  • Tallied three tackles and a sack.
  • Notched a nine-yard sack of Justin Herbert in the second quarter. It was his second sack of the season (15.5 career).

TE CHIG OKONKWO

  • Contributed two receptions for 10 yards.

RB TONY POLLARD

  • Led the offense with 56 yards on 10 rushing attempts and added a 12-yard reception.
  • On the game's opening drive, he recorded runs of 12 and 16 yards on consecutive plays.

DL C.J. RAVENELL

  • Credited with a tackle and his first career forced fumble in the first quarter (recovered by the Chargers).

CB MICAH ROBINSON

  • Made his NFL debut.

K JOEY SLYE

  • Made a 49-yard field goal in the second quarter and a 37-yarder in the fourth quarter.
  • Increased his season totals to 17 field goals on 22 attempts and nine extra points on 10 attempts.

RB TYJAE SPEARS

  • Rushed for 26 yards on seven attempts and added three receptions for 36 yards.
  • Gained 26 yards on a reception in the second quarter. It was the sixth-longest reception of his career.

NT T'VONDRE SWEAT

  • Registered three tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass defensed.

QB CAM WARD

  • Completed 12 of 21 passes for 145 yards.
  • Completed a 21-yard pass to Van Jefferson in the first quarter.
  • Connected with Tyjae Spears for a 26-yard completion in the second quarter.
  • Helped convert a third-and-seven with a 29-yard completion to Elic Ayomanor in the third quarter.
  • Became the first rookie quarterback in franchise history to start the first nine games of a season. Previously, Marcus Mariota held the franchise's longest rookie streak to begin a season with starts in the first five games as a rookie in 2015.

OLB JIHAD WARD

  • Notched a career-high 2.5 sacks to go with four tackles and four total quarterback hits.
  • Dropped Justin Herbert for a six-yard sack in the first quarter and added a six-yard sack in the second quarter.
  • Combined with Dre'Mont Jones for a sack in the third quarter.
  • Became the fourth Titans player in the past 10 seasons (2016-25) to record at least 2.5 sacks in a game, joining Cameron Wake (2.5 at Cleveland on Sept. 8, 2019), Jeffery Simmons (three at L.A. Rams on Nov. 7, 2021) and Harold Landry III (three at Miami on Dec. 11, 2023).

S KEVIN WINSTON JR.

  • Registered his first career start and totaled two tackles.

The Tennessee Titans take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 9 at Nissan Stadium.
