NASHVILLE – Cam Ward was asked on Wednesday about cut-down day in the NFL, which is looming.
The question centered on how the Titans rookie quarterback is handling things, knowing a lot of his newfound friends won't be around this time next week, when teams must trim from 90 to 53 players.
Ward instead focused on his own status.
"Really, you just have to take advantage of every opportunity, and that's for myself, too," Ward said. "For myself, I have to take advantage of every opportunity I have to get on the field, and everybody's job is not there. I have to work for mine every day. You see quarterbacks in and out of the league. So, I think the biggest thing is (you) just have to be consistent throughout the process."
Selected first overall by the Titans in the 2025 NFL Draft, Ward has played in two preseason games so far.
He's completed 7-of-15 passes for 109 yards on five drives, and he's also gotten work in three joint practices with the Buccaneers (one) and Falcons (two).
Ward and the Titans will face the Vikings in the preseason finale at Nissan Stadium on Friday. Ward thinks it's important for the Titans to end the preseason on a high note.
The regular season opener is September 7 in Denver.
Ward and the starters are expected to play a few series against Minnesota.
"I think it's real important, in terms of us playing at a high level, and making drives count, whether it's with six or three points," Ward said. "And also, getting guys excited to play football. Having excitement on the sideline, and getting guys touches on the field, and at the end of the day, playing together. A lot of points can come from teams playing together, not playing selfish football. And I'm just glad that we have one of those teams that plays together."
