NASHVILLE – After practicing in blazing hot temperatures, the Titans swapped their jerseys and shoulder pads in for light blue Titans polos and spent part of their day at the Annual Foundation Luncheon.
The event raised money for the Titans Foundation.
Approximately 350 people were in attendance at the Omni Hotel in downtown Nashville. The event was attended by the entire team, coaches and players, in addition to other members of the organization.
Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell was among those at the luncheon.
Coach Robert Saleh, defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and coordinators Brian Daboll (offense), Gus Bradley (defense) and John Fassel (special teams) spoke at the luncheon.
After Titans play-by-play man Taylor Zarzour introduced the players to the crowd, Johari Matthews, Vice President and Executive Director, One Community and the Titans Foundation, introduced Simmons, who discussed his personal involvement in Habitat for Humanity, and the importance of community outreach.
Earlier this year, Simmons surprised a family at a Habitat for Humanity event by announcing he would pay their mortgage for the next year. The family was also present at the luncheon.
Former Titans tackle Brad Hopkins, now with Titans Radio, then held a roundtable with the coordinators.
Later, Zarzour talked with Saleh about the team, and the upcoming season.
The mission statement of the Titans Foundation is simple: To create generational change one person, one family, one community at a time. To do this the team focuses on three pillars, where it is driven to make things better: Opportunity, Neighborhoods and Education.
"Today's Annual Titans Foundation Kickoff Luncheon is all about celebrating our commitment to using the game of football as a force for good," Matthews said. "We highlight our players making an impact off the field, the community partners who help us empower the next generation of Titans, and raise dollars on behalf of the Tennessee Titans Foundation to continue doing good across Tennessee."
The Titans kick off the regular season on September 13 against the Jets at Nissan Stadium.
