Titans QB Cam Ward Knows The Team's Offense Needs to Be Better

NASHVILLE – Quarterback Cam Ward was excited to get in the win column.

But on Wednesday, as the Titans ramped up preparations for Sunday's game vs the Browns, Ward made it clear he knows there's plenty of work to be done on the offensive side of the ball.

"I think we all have to be better," Ward said. "I have to be better – I am over-critical of myself on anything, whether it's the run game … or the pass game, throwing guys open and giving those guys chances.

"It is all 11 of us on offense, and I think as we keep on getting closer to where we want to be. I think as we continue to get more games and more reps with each other, and play the style of football that I know we are capable of playing, I think we'll be able to get some big improvements throughout the year."

Ward threw for just 102 yards in Sunday's 26-20 win over the Colts, when the Titans saw their defense and special teams make some game-deciding plays.

Aside from Ward's connection with rookie Carnell Tate for a game-tying touchdown, the Tennessee offense didn't finish drives in the end zone. There were too many failed possessions, and punts.

The Titans are ranked 32nd in the NFL in yards per game (236.3) and tied for 31st in scoring offense (14.0).

Ward said he's looking forward to getting things going with receiver Calvin Ridley, tight end Gunnar Helm, and others in the offense.

He's using the week to get better.

"(Winning a game) doesn't change anything – we still know we are behind the eight-ball," Ward said. "We still know we have a lot to prove to ourselves, and I think that is the best part about it – we know each and every week we get a new opportunity. We are going against a very talented team this week here at home, so we are excited for it. We get a chance to prove to ourself, to each other as an offense, and I think if we do that, we play mistake-free football, and have a couple of explosives and are able to move the ball well, we'll be able to be in a good position to win."
