Next Tuesday, the team will trim its roster to 53 players.
By next Wednesday, the team's practice squad will be formed.
There's a lot to talk about, so let's jump into another mailbag.

Question: Hey Jim. I've always wondered this but never was able to get an answer. So, hopefully you can help.
When rival coaches get together during training camp and preseason games do you know if say, Brian Callahan says to Minnesota coach Kevin O'Connell, we really need work on our run defense can you run a few plays so we can coach em up? Of course the same maybe true where Kevin says sure and we need help with our pass rush defense. So, they work out a deal where during the first 2 series of the preseason game with most starters playing they are able to work on their respective needs. Do you know Jim if that conversation happens?
Thanks Jim!
Jim: Hey Steve. I suspect these conversations take place leading up to joint practices, and the practices are designed to help the teams get work in areas where they feel it's most needed. But I don't think these conversations take place leading up to games, for competitive reasons. I do think, in most cases, there's some communication during the course of the week, gauging how much teams plan to play their starters and back-ups, etc. But this is probably on a case by case basis, depending on the coaches.

Question: Hey Jim, Glad you're back, you were definitely missed. Would you please post the WR stats (camp and games) to date? Many of us are pulling for Restrepo to make the cut. It seems as though he had a good camp, but not getting to play much in the games. What gives? I made the comment on FB, implying he may be a secret weapon and they are keeping him on the downlow. Maybe seeing the stats would help explain? Thank you Sir. Appreciate ya.
Jim: Hey Beau. In the nine open practices in Nashville during training camp (I missed one for my father's funeral), I've counted 21 catches for Van Jefferson, which leads all receivers. Chimere Dike and Tyler Lockett have 19 each. Several are bunched up after that, with Restrepo sitting at 17. Now keep in mind some of these guys have been running with the 1s on a consistent basis, and others haven't. So I wouldn't say any of this info is the be-al and end-all. But it's fun to chart, and discuss.

Question: Jim, sorry about your father's passing. I lost my father four years ago and I still have to remind myself he's only with me in spirit. Most days that's enough. Observations so far and from (the final preseason game): I've got to say that I've been impressed with Helm at TE. Pairing him with Chig, who is no slouch himself, is going to give this team something they haven't had since the Wycheck-Harris combination under McNair, a key to the Titans Superbowl run. Cally appears to have a pair of TEs that can stretch the field, and TEs are a QB's best friend. I'm liking Jordan Mims, too. He seems to have a certain 'something' when he gets to the line and picks a hole or makes a cut. He's just doing it faster. It almost felt like he could take it to the house on every carry. I've seen enough of Julius Chestnut to know that he's not getting any better than what he's shown us. Mims and that extent, Mullings seem to have more upside. Kendall Brooks obviously flashed with that pick six. What are his chances of making the final 53? The backup QBs showed much better in this game. But I can't see the Titans keeping three QBs. And if Siemian is on the practice squad, I'm pretty sure that some other team out there is going to snap him up when they need a spot starter. He's had starting experience, and in this league, that's a precious commodity. That throw that Allen made to Helm for the TD was a highlight- high heat. I didn't think he had that type of arm. I'm not going to judge the defense because big Jeff hasn't suited up yet. As such, they remain an unknown quantity, but Cedric Gray is making waves. Our special teams remain a mess. Penalties on just about every punt/kickoff return. Fassel has his work cut out for him. Proche II and Oliver should make the team. They're just making too many plays. I have my doubts about Jefferson as the third WR. That drop from Ward is almost unforgivable. It's just good to see my team back on the field again. Hope springs eternal, and although I have no reason to feel so, I am optimistic about the upcoming season. There's no way this team can go 3-14 or worse, is there? Fingers crossed. Am I ready for some football??? YES!!!
Jim: Thanks, Andy. I appreciate it. I'm sure going to miss him. As for your observations, Helm has been really good, and is developing quickly. Coaches love Chestnut because of his all-around ability, including pass pro and special teams. I've liked the looks of Brooks, but the team has numbers there, which could make it tough for him. I think the team will keep 2 QBs on the 53, just not 100 percent sure who the 2 will be (I know the coaches like Brandon Allen, but will someone else be out there that intrigues the staff?). Cedric Gray is surging. I've always thought Dike would emerge as the returner, but we'll see.
David Sowder from Chattanooga, Tennessee
Question: Jim. Who do you have at safety for game one? Just not sure if Hooker is the guy! He is targeted by opposing quarterbacks a lot. I was hoping this would be the year he steps up his game!
Thanks for taking my question!
Titan Up!!
Jim: Hey David. I have two safeties in the starting lineup for Game 1, and Amani Hooker is definitely one of them.
Jeremy Rodriguez from Winchester, California
Question: Well Jim, I think the Titans TE room has some great talent! Over the last two week I think that room showed they are ready to complete against anyone! My concern about this team is the #2 QB. I would love for Borgonzi to try and acquire Jameis Winston.. I know, I know... but... I think Jameis gives the Titans a solid #2 in case they need a #2. Have a great week Jim and as always TITAN UP!!
Jim: Appreciate you taking the time, Jeremy.

Question: For David in Hawaii. Most cost effective way to follow Titans out of Market is NFL+ starting at $49.99 a year. Can listen live or watch full game starting about 15 minutes after ending. I gave up Sunday Ticket when it topped $450. Only difference for me is I wait for game to end to watch. Hope this helps.
Titan up those Special Team penalties.
Jim: Thanks for chiming in with his info, E.M. This is in response to David Hayakawa's question from Honolulu over the weekend.
Omar Parker from Bay Area, California
Question: Hey Jim. I haven't written in a while and I have no question. Just wanted to write and send my condolences and best wishes after hearing about your Dad. My Dad is getting older and I know for me it's hard to see a loved one getting older, but at the same time a blessing to be able to do so. You do a lot for us fans, allowing us to vent and share so I hope in some small way it helps with us letting you know what you mean to us as a fanbase and part of this Titans family. Prayers to you and your family Jim and hoping you find a sense of peace asap.
Jim: Thanks, Omar. I was lucky to have my dad for 87 years. He was a real blessing in my life, and I was fortunate to be able to spend so much time with him since he lived in Nashville. Definitely an empty feeling now that he's gone. Enjoy every day you have with yours, Omar. And I appreciate the kind words.

Question: No question, just want to pass on my condolences for your father. My dad passed away 4 years ago at 57 and was a massive titans fan. He's the reason I've have been an oilers/titans fan my whole life. I would add that it's the hardest part not being able to watch the games or him calling me during and after the games so I get it. Just remember the good times and just know every day is a blessing and just cherish the ones still here, and keep his legacy going on everyday. I really appreciate what you do for this guy in Missouri, and wish you the best, prayers!! Go titans!!
Jim: Thanks so much, Joel.
Chris Malone from Indianapolis, Indiana
Question: Hang in there. You don't ever stop missing them. So don't even try. However, it does get easier to handle over time and won't always feel like it does now. Now to just a depth chart questions. Do you see either Elic or Dike becoming starters this season? (Yes I totally took the easy way out on both their names). Do you see Martin-Robinson sticking as the #3 tight end behind Chig and Gunnar? Do you see Diggs, Winston and Hooker starting at some point? Lastly, is Sweat going to be ready to start Game 1?
Jim: Appreciate it, Chris. I could see both of Dike and Ayomanor emerging as starters, or at least regular contributors, later in the year. It just depends on how consistent they are when the real competition begins. They'll have to earn it. Martin-Robinson has had a solid camp. Heading into camp I thought DMR would be the 3, and kind of still feel this way. ... Winston has been out of the mix of late, as the team has held him out of practices. Diggs hasn't really gotten in the flow since being signed. We'll have to see how things play out. Great question on Sweat. I think probably yes, but his conditioning has suffered over the last few weeks, as he's missed. And, the opener will be at 5,280 feet…

Question: I just want to say I am sorry to hear of your Dad passing. I know how difficult this is because I have lost my Mom, Dad and Two brothers. Just remember he Loved you while he was on earth and he Loves you looking down at you from Heaven. God Be With You And Your Family.
Jim: Thanks, Michael.

Question: Jim, I'm really pulling for Ward to have a great season this year. If they stay healthy, I want to believe that the O-line will be better this year. He clearly is much, much better than the backups. He will have to self destruct for either to get a start over him. However, I do think their most recent pre-season performances by Levis and Ward reveal interesting differences between the two QBs performances. According to sports journalist Zach Dimmitt, following Titans' second preseason game, "Levis was nearly perfect as a passer, as he finished his day 7 of 8 through the air for 118 yards and a 118.8 passer rating...Having played in two of the team's three preseason games, Levis has gone a combined 11 of 13 passing for 153 yards, no touchdowns and no picks. He also added a one-yard rushing touchdown in the preseason-opening win over the San Francisco 49ers on Aug. 10." Ward after two games: 5 of 8 in first game. 2 of 7 in second game. During first game made pass that should have been intercepted that was clearly an error in judgement. I'm not a Levis fan. I'm not a Ward fan. I am a Titans fan. I'm not sure either QB is a "franchise QB." I do think it would be smart to keep both QBs until one clearly stands out as the starter. It is only fair to point out that it was Levis second preseason that was evaluated above. If both were playing today, I think Levis' experience would give him an edge. If Ward gets to start all season as Levis recovers from surgery, my money would be on Ward at the start of next season. It's a toss up. The Titans still need a backup QB. Neither of their current backups give them a chance to win. What's Tannenhill doing? Woodside gave them a chance to win, where's he? Is there someone else out there they could get? If Ward flops this year, will the Titans draft another QB in 2026?
Jim: Hey Mitch. I definitely wouldn't judge Ward – or Levis – based off a couple of preseason games. Will's regular season performances proved to be a better gauge. And, make to mistake, Ward was going to be the starter this season, even if Levis had been healthy. Trust me on this. And, Tannehill isn't coming back.
Enjoy the game everyone! And thanks for all the kind words.
