Weekend Mailbag: Jim Wyatt Answers Questions From Titans Fans At the End of the Offseason Program

Mail3Jeff

NASHVILLE – And that's a wrap for the Titans offseason program.

The team wrapped up workouts this week, and now the countdown is on until training camp.

A lot of questions still need to be answered as we approach the 2026 season.

And, some questions will continue to be answered in the mailbag.

Let's get going on the latest edition …

Ed Helinski from Auburn, New York
Question: Hey Jim, Greetings from the NY Finger Lakes.
What do Titans players do between mini camp and training camp? Are players required to track their weight, meals and activities on a daily basis? And might there be legendary stories where players did some unique things?

Jim: Hi Ed. A lot of these guys are on their own, but with a plan given to them. But it's up to them to follow it, and to stay in shape. All the players will have to weigh in when they report for camp on July 28, and pass a conditioning test. Head coach Robert Saleh on Wednesday stressed the importance of them working during the 40-day break, and showing up ready for camp. If they don't, they increase their chances of being injured. As for those already with an injury, some of them will remain in town for at least a bit, rehabbing. But this is also a time when guys can travel with their families, and get away for a bit. It's about finding the right balance.

James Essary from Memphis, Tennessee
Question: Wassup Jim hope your staying cool its already smoking hot here in Memphis. How you feel about Restrepo making the roster? I believe he deserves a chance to at least be Wan'Dale backup in the slot. I believe we may have a Welker on the roster. When he got his chances last year he did well with what he was giving. Them last couple of games he came up big on a couple 3rd and longs. So have you heard any talks through the grapevine that he may be on the 53?

Jim: Hey James. I touched on Restrepo in my "Ten Thoughts After Offseason Workouts' piece I wrote this week. CLICK HERE to read it. The Cliffs Notes version is he's been balling this offseason. He caught more passes than any receiver, from all the QBs. With that said, he's at a position where it's going to be tough to make the 53. He just needs to keep doing his thing and make it hard on the decision makers to cut him.

Isaak Jama from Orlando, Florida
Question: Hi Jim. I have been a fan of the Titans & Oilers for the last 45 years. An observation - unless the team and management realize that without a good O-Line, the offense will be at the bottom of the league. I see that we are loading up on defense, and neglecting the offensive line; so why not attend to the O-Line?

Jim: Hey Isaak. We'll find out in time how the offensive line will measure up. A lot of folks believe Austin Schlottman is capable of being a solid center, but we'll find out in competition during camp. Cordell Volson has played in a lot of games, and I think he's probably the favorite to win the right guard spot. But a lot of guys will be in the mix on the interior line. And, the team is going to need returners Peter Skoronski, JC Latham and Dan Moore to play well. I certainly realize this is an area that's going to be scrutinized – and criticized – if things don't go well.

Chance Cole from Franklin, Tennessee
Question: Hi Jim. Lifelong Titan fan and PSL holder. I have 4 in the current stadium and 7 in the new one. I asked this question of the PSL office and didn't get much of an answer – I asked about the seats at the old stadium. Before it is torn down— they should sell the seats for charity. I would love to put my Music City Miracle seats in my backyard— and I bet others would as well. Suppose 20,000 people wanted to buy seats at $100 a pop— that could a quick two million for Make a Wish or some other group.

Jim: Hey Chance. I know a lot of folks are interested in those seats. I just found out this week there's now a web page with questions about memorabilia from the current stadium, and what's going to be available to benefit the Titans Foundation. On this page it says: 'Unfortunately, due to timing constraints and structural logistics, it will not be possible to purchase specific seats. However, we do anticipate making a number of stadium seats available for purchase, with details being finalized soon.' CLICK HERE for that info and more. Hope this helps, and please don't shoot the messenger.

Jae Jones from Washington, DC
Question: Hey Jim. I hope all is well with you, and as always, thank you for everything you do for us out-of-state Titans fans.
As a Titans fans in Washington, DC, my 12-year-old son, EJ, and I are hoping to make trip down to Nashville this August for Training Camp and, if possible, catch a preseason game as well.
By chance, do you know which Training Camp dates will be open to the public? We're trying to start planning the trip and weren't sure if those dates have been announced yet.
Appreciate Everything You Do.

Jim: Hey Jae. I'm hearing we may get the word on open practice dates by the end of this month, so stay tuned. Saleh mentioned the other day there would be a practice at the stadium. Based on the timing of what he said, I'd plan on either Friday night, August 7 or Saturday, August 8. The practices at the facility will be tougher to get in, so if you can be here on August 7 that's probably going to be your best bet, but again, stay tuned. And, of course, the home preseason games are set for August 23 (Seattle) and August 29 (Chicago), with a joint practices expected two days before those games.

Cainen Rosales from New Mexico
Question: Hey Jim, just wondering when content/media day is?

Jim: It was this past Monday.

Eli Decko from Youngwood, Pennsylvania
Question: I'm only equating making Risotto to throwing the ball cuz they are both the most basic skills in our respective career choices. I would easily call being a chef more difficult than being a QB though for sure. Either way, I used to MF Steve McNair too. Had the Mailbag been around in 1995 I would have been in it like crazy. There were games in the later part of his Airness' career I was disgusted with too. You remember Mariota? Who didn't throw an interception in camp until what, August I think or late July and he started out 15-18 and 4tds with a 158.3 rating in one of the hardest offenses to learn, Philip Rivers actually said that not me. I watched last season obsessively. I rewatched it obsessively. Cam "got better" once they started to run the ball and literally shrink the playbook to the same 7 plays. I'm saying same 7 plays because if you watch the route concepts and combinations, they were all the same, just in differing formations. Yeah Jim, I watch film like that. I mapped all the routes out and make graphs for route depth and all that. I am a long time fan and I'm seeing the same things over and over again. That is why I'm frustrated. I'm wondering why nobody decided to dumb the offense down for Will Levis like they did for Cam. Sure, McCoy is the one who simplified it not that horrible "coach" Cally, but why? This team did Levis no favors. I know it was Vrabel who I know you believe I think he walks on water cuz I'm a huge fan, but cmon. New offense and new coach are so weak. Drake Maye also learned a new offense last year and his first year in it he was #2 in the MVP race. Cam is not going to do that. Also Drake Maye went from a simp offense to McDaniels offense, which albeit player friendly, is complex as hell. The X receiver in the Patriots offense had 13 routes last season. That is double the Titans from what I saw last season. Either way, I love my team. If we were just going to revert back to a run first offense after Amy said "modernizing football" and all that stupidity, why didn't we just keep Derrick Henry? At least help us make sense of that. Derrick Henry did not want to leave, I asked him myself in Pittsburgh before the wide kick game last season. He has scored 34 touchdowns in 2 seasons in Baltimore. Pollard....10. That is 24 touchdowns, equaling how many wins? Imagine the Titans had those 34 touchdowns. Thanks again Jim. Much love to you as always for always at very least reading my emails. My passion can be a bit much, but you being so committed to the fans is what makes you the absolute best in the business.

Jim: Appreciate you jumping back in, Eli. You're not going to believe it but they served Risotto in the cafeteria the Monday after your email. It was pretty good, too!

Have a great weekend everyone!
