Observations From Titans Scrimmage at Nissan Stadium on Saturday Night

NASHVILLE – The Titans hit the field at Nissan Stadium on Saturday night for the eighth practice of training camp.

Here's a look at what stood out on Day 8:

-Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota came out hot, completing 6 of his 7 passes on the opening drive, including a touchdown strike to receiver Tajae Sharpe. Mariota also connected with receiver Adam Humphries and tight end Anthony Firkser on the first drive.

-Sharpe had a really nice night. Sharpe caught four balls on the opening drive, and five catches on the night. He also caught a 20-yard pass in a third-down period.

-The Mariota-led offense struggled down the stretch, especially in a red zone period, where the quarterback faced a lot of pressure.

-Outside linebacker Sharif Finch was very active, and I had him with at least two sacks on the night. With no tackling, it was hard to say for sure, but he was certainly in Mariota's face a lot.

-Tight end Delanie Walker caught his first pass at Nissan Stadium since the 2017 season, and then he caught another, and another, and another. It was a nice return after missing all of last season with the ankle injury.

-Amani Hooker, Adam Humphries, Adoree' Jackson and Kalif Raymond all lined up deep to field punts.

-Backup quarterback Ryan Tannehill guided the team to a field goal on his first drive and made a number of nice throws. Receiver Taywan Taylor came up with a pair of catches on Tannehill's first drive.

-It was only a so-so day for Firkser, who let some footballs escape his grasp that he normally catches.

-It was a tough night for Jared Stillman of 102.5 The Game, who let a football thrown out of bounds by Mariota bounce off his hands on the sideline. Stillman blamed the wet conditions for the blooper-reel moment.

-Linebacker Harold Landry had the biggest hit of the night when he knocked down tight end Ryan Hewitt after he made a short grab.

-Kicker Austin Barnard was 3-of-3 on his field goal tries.

-Quarterback Logan Woodside engineered a drive that ended with a field goal, with completions to Raymond and Hewitt.

-The Titans took a lot of shots downfield – both Mariota and Tannehill.

-Cornerback LeShaun Sims made a really nice break-up in the end zone on a ball intended for receiver Cody Hollister. Linebacker Daren Bates also made a nice play to force an incompletion. Earlier, cornerback Kareem Orr had a nice break-up.

-In the final red zone period of the night, Tannehill connected on touchdown passes with Darius Jennings and running back Jeremy McNichols, although the latter score was questionable – it looked like he would've been tackled at the two-yard line.

-Receiver Corey Davis, running back Derrick Henry, receiver A.J. Brown, tackle Jack Conklin, guard Nate Davis and defensive lineman Frank Herron were among those who did not practice on Saturday night.

-Practice was delayed roughly an hour because of the weather.

Next practice: Monday, 1:50 p.m. at Saint Thomas Sports Park (Closed to fans).
