NASHVILLE â Titans interim coach Mike McCoy held a zoom press conference on Monday, one day after the team's 37-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
The Titans return to action this Sunday vs the Kansas City Chiefs at Nissan Stadium.
Here's a look at some of the hot topics from today's presser:
-McCoy did not give any injury updates a day after safety Xavier Woods (hamstring), safety Kevin Winston Jr. (hamstring), safety Mike Brown (ankle), guard Kevin Zeitler (groin), linebacker Cedric Gray (concussion), receiver Van Jefferson (back) and tight end Gunnar Helm (toe) all left with injuries. "Some guys are going through all the testing," McCoy said. "In the next day or two, we'll have more information."
-McCoy said he's seen growth in the team's running game following back-to-back 100-yard games from running back Tony Pollard. "The production in the running game, that helps," McCoy said. "You can't just drop back and try and throw it all the time. You see the efficiency we've been playing with, the balance we've been playing with, the complementary football. And that's what you have to do."
-McCoy said he was sorry to hear news that Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a season-ending torn ACL on Sunday vs the Chargers. "I'm thinking of Pat, one of the great competitors in the league," McCoy said. "Not only what he means to the (Chiefs) organization, but what he means to the NFL. ⊠The type of person he is on and off the field ⊠this is the bad part of the business. You feel for him. We wish him nothing but the best."
-McCoy was asked about Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons having his home broken into Sunday night. McCoy said the team is "trying to help him as much as we possibly can."
-McCoy said he's seen progress from quarterback Cam Ward, but acknowledged he's still learning. "It's a typical rookie season," McCoy said. "For a rookie quarterback, there's going to be good and there's going to be bad. There's the ups and downs, and you're learning every week. ⊠He's always learning and he's getting better week in and week out. You see the growth, week in and week out. He's headed in the right direction, and he has a very bright future. And we're going to win a lot of games with him."
-It's still unclear whether rookie edge rusher Femi Oladejo will play again this season. But McCoy said Oladejo, who remains on Injured Reserve with a leg injury, is working extremely hard. "There's a possibility that he gets back out there," McCoy said, "but we'll wait to see. ⊠I think there's benefits for the players to come out, even if it's just through practice or things like that. You get back on the field, and you get your confidence back, coming off an injury like that."
