NASHVILLE – Titans interim coach Mike McCoy held a press conference on Monday, one day after the team's 16-13 loss to the Houston Texans.
The Titans return to action this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks at Nissan Stadium.
Here's a look at some of the hot topics from today's presser:
-McCoy led off his presser expressing sympathy for receiver Calvin Ridley, who broke his fibula in Sunday's game. "It's the tough part of the business," McCoy said. "Knowing what the game means to him, this is a tough one. He'd worked so hard to get back. I truly want to thank him for everything. … He was crushed obviously. He works his tail off … and it's such an honor for him to be a captain. It sucks that Calvin got injured."
-McCoy gave no other injury updates on Monday. After the game on Sunday, he indicated receiver Elic Ayomanor left with a hamstring injury and Chimere Dike suffered a chest contusion.
-McCoy said the Titans will monitor the health of the team's receivers while deciding who will play on Sunday. "It will be by committee," McCoy said. "We're going to work through it, it's Monday."
-McCoy was asked about receiver Xavier Restrepo, who is on the team's practice squad, and whether he's an option. McCoy noted Restrepo has been involved in the kicking game more recently, which is important, but he did not commit to him being called up in the near future.
-McCoy said he thought quarterback Cam Ward had a solid performance on Sunday, when he completed 24-of-37 passes for 194 yards and a touchdown while also running three times for 33 yards. Ward also lost the football when he was sacked. "There's a couple of plays where he would tell you, if you asked him, there's a couple of plays you'd like to have back," McCoy said of Ward. "But I think he played well. … Overall, I think he played well, happy with the way he played."
-The Titans managed just 58 rushing yards on the day, including Ward's 33. Tony Pollard had 10 carries for 22 yards, while Tyjae Spears gained just three yards on four carries. "We can't run the ball like that," McCoy said. "That was not good yesterday. … Obviously you'd like to run it more, but we didn't have the success you want to. We have to run the ball and execute better."
-The Titans committed nine penalties for 62 yards in Sunday's game, including five false starts. Right tackle JC Latham was guilty if three false starts himself. "You can't have five false starts in a game," McCoy said. "We definitely have to clean it up. It's unacceptable."
-The Texans converted a third and 16 with a 17-yard pass from quarterback Davis Mills to Nico Collins on their game-winning drive. McCoy said "we have to drop with more depth" on the play to force the Texans to throw the ball underneath. Only that didn't happen, and the Texans continued the drive that resulted in a field goal as time expired. "(Mills) made a phenomenal throw," McCoy said. "But we can't allow him to make that throw."
