NASHVILLE – Titans coach Brian Callahan held a press conference on Saturday, one day after the team's 23-13 preseason win over the Vikings.

The Titans must trim their roster to 53 players by Tuesday.

After that, preparation ramps up for the regular season opener at the Denver Broncos on September 7.

Here's a look at some of the hot topics from today's presser:

-Callahan said the Titans, who have the top spot on the waiver wire, will be watching cuts closely around the league. "The benefit of being No.1 in the waiver claim is that you have first crack at anybody you think upgrades your roster," Callahan said. "I know (GM) Mike (Borgonzi) and his crew have been hard at work, they've watched every player in the preseason, watched every preseason game of every team, and they have a really good feel for what's out there. You never know what is going to shake free, or not shake free, so you do your due diligence and you are ready for it when it comes. There is going to be opportunities to claim some players that will help us, and that will be a part of the ongoing process through Tuesday to make sure we try to find the best 53."

-Callahan acknowledged the Titans, and quarterback Cam Ward, face a big challenge in Week 1. "First and foremost, a very, very stiff test right out of the gate with the defense in Denver," Callahan said. "Very talented, very well coached football team. It's a good test for our football team in general. … It's going to be the first time against a really good football team that (Cam) is going to play the entirety of the game, and there's going to be learning moments through the course of the whole process. I think he is up for the task, and we are ready for that challenge and looking forward to it."

-Callahan said the team is doing some early prep for the Broncos, but with so much upcoming activity on the roster, the team doesn't try to jump to far ahead. "We'll do a little bit of advanced prep on Denver," he said, "but you just try to use this week as, one more week of training camp essentially as far as fundamentals and practice goes." Callahan said the staff has done plenty of work on Denver over the course of the summer, "and we're way ahead on the first couple of opponents as it is."

-Callahan let receiver Mason Kinsey break the team down in the locker room after Friday's game. "I always appreciate Mason, I appreciate the way he plays the game, I appreciate the tenacity he plays with," Callahan said. "He has made a career in this league in being that, and he hasn't changed one bit. … Just thought it was the right thing to do."

-Callahan said tackle JC Latham, receiver Calvin Ridley and defensive lineman T'Vondre Sweat are all "tracking for Week 1 without a ton of concern at the moment" after missing practice time and games recently. "We're just trying to get guys back now," Callahan said. "We're getting guys fresh, and ready to roll." Callahan said he feels good about where all three of those guys are right now.

-Callahan said the captains for the 2025 season will be announced at a "captains dinner" on Wednesday.
