What's Next for Titans QB Cam Ward? "Just Work Out, Stay in the Playbook, and Throw the (Expletive) Out of the Ball"

NASHVILLE – Cam Ward's work in the offseason program is over.

Well, almost.

The Titans quarterback will be back in the building next week with the rest of the rookies before they head their separate ways until training camp.

But the team wrapped up its final day of work on the practice field on Thursday, with the completion of a three-day minicamp, following six days of OTAs. The rookies and veterans will reunite at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park on July 22, before taking the field for training camp on July 23.

So, what's next on tap for Ward?

"Just work out, stay in the playbook, and throw the (expletive) out of the ball," Ward said in a very matter of fact tone on Thursday.

Ward said he felt good about the three-day minicamp, despite throwing a pair of interceptions on the final day.

In the three minicamp practices, Ward went a combined 42-of-58 in 7-on-7 and team drills combined. Ward completed 21 consecutive passes at one point over a two-day stretch.

On Thursday, Ward was intercepted by linebacker Cody Barton, and later picked off by cornerback Davion Ross in a team period.

Ward shrugged off the practice field picks, and said it's part of growing.

"The first one, 7-on-7, I don't count that, it's not real football," Ward said with a half smile. "I'm glad I threw it to Cody, because that's six points for my team. The second one, I should have side-armed it, I don't know why I did some generic stuff. … I have to continue to move linebackers with my eyes, and really just play clean football, especially in the red zone, I am aware of that. But I'd rather do all the crazy stuff in practice so in the game I know I can get away with it.

"I am growing, learning, especially being with the vets, getting our timing down," Ward added. "So, I am excited."

As for where he is a few months before the season, Ward said he's feeling good, and confident.

When asked about his overall confidence level, he said it's a 10.

"At the end of the day, I'm a gunslinger," Ward said. "I live by that, and I'll always die by that. Coach (Brian) Callahan knows the type of guy he has in the quarterback room in me, and I'm just thankful I have guys around me to help me out."
