Weekend Mailbag: Jim Wyatt Answers Questions From Titans Fans

mailCamoffseason

NASHVILLE – We're now less than a week from the start of the NFL Draft.

Heck, a week from today we'll be wrapping up.

I know folks are ready.

Let's dive into another Titans mailbag and get some final thoughts…

Here's the link to submit questions: CLICK HERE

Raymond Farrar from St. Louis, Missouri
Question: Hey Jim. First and foremost, R. I. P. Coach Mac. A great loss is a total understatement.
As we approach the draft (finally!), I know I'm the odd man out on this subject, but I truly hope that the offensive line gets better through this draft. I think that not enough has been said about it. Sure, WR and RB is fine, but if you don't have a good offensive line, then they are irrelevant. Your thoughts?

Jim: It's still hard to believe Coach Mac is no longer with us. He was a great man who impacted so many lives. He's already missed.
As for the offensive line, I think everyone is on board with improving the o-line in this draft, I just don't think anyone wants to see that happen in the first round, especially not at pick 4.

Gene Stefanelli from the Jersey Shore
Question: Hi Jim. So sorry for the loss of Coach Mac.
My question is a timely one - the draft. What is your opinion on drafting Love versus taking one of the two Ohio State linebackers, Reese or Styles?
Do you feel Love could make a greater impact by taking some pressure off Cam, or is it more important to shore up the defense?
Also, I'd like to commend you for being a favorite among Titan employees. More than a few have said very kind things about you, as I have had contact with your coworkers over the past several years. Thanks.

Jim: Hi Gene! Good to hear from you. I like both those linebackers from Ohio State, and I like David Bailey from Texas Tech, too. But I admit I've become a big Jeremiyah Love fan over the past year, and can't help but think he could really change the offense, and really help out Cam. But that's just my opinion.
I know you have some great connections here! 😊 I really enjoy working with Claire, who it turns out is quite a fisherwoman as well! 🐟 Congrats on the wedding. On another note, did I see you at a Nicki Minaj concert in Phoenix before the Super Bowl in 2015? 😎

Bill Caldwell from Lebanon, Tennessee
Question: Afternoon Jim. Been thinking about the upcoming draft and a long range view of the franchise. So I' start my process by contacting the Ravens and trade to bring Derrick back. I'd' extend his contract to three years and restructure as needed. I'd give up one of our fifth rd picks. Sine we wouldn't need Bell anymore we then trade the fourth for a decent first and another pick, preferably a fifth. With the first I'd go with either a center or guard. Solidly that line. This would give Cam a solid line as well as Derrick. Derrick would be a solid influence on the offense and is always a powerful option. Additionally with Derrick on the team when the new stadium opens the fans will be stoked. He would undoubtedly retire as a Titan. The second pick go with a wide out. The rest of the draft best player available. In my Titans dreams. See ya at the draft. Praying to have the draft back sooner than later. God Bless

Jim: Don't get your hopes up, Bill.

Brian Butler from Houston, Texas
Question: Hello Jim it's great reading your mailbag. I love to see what other Titan fans have to say good or bad it's just really interesting thanks for that! I just want to say one more thing, if they don't pick Texas Tech's Bailey I would be disappointed but I would still love the them anyway Titan Blue is in my blood!

Jim: Thanks for chiming in, Brian. He's a good one for sure.

Logan Kluge from Summerville, South Carolina
Question: Hello Jim. I am a big fan of Cam Ward since he was at Washington State. I was wondering if there was any plans or running trick plays on the offense this year like flea flickers or anything crazy?

Jim: Hey Logan. Just between us, you should see some of the trick plays the team has been working on!

Darris Mays from Lewisville, Tennessee
Question: Hello Jim. I pray all is well! I wondering have our GM and Head coach considered these players.
RB- Mike Washington Jr (4.33) 40- time
CB- Toriano Pride Jr (4.32)
CB- D'Angelo Ponds (4.35)
CB- Daylen Everette (4.38)
S- Lorenzo Styles Jr (4.27)
WR- Brenen Thompson (4.26)
WR- Zavion Thomas (4.28)
WR- Deion Burks (4.30
I know these guys aren't first round picks but 3rd or 4th round could be possible. The one thing I know for sure speed can hurt you. Also I'm not a fan of Jeremiah Love at all. We don't need him. We can find running backs in the 4th round. Rueben Bain Jr should be our pick the other 2 guys are going 2 and 3. Houston has the best defense in the AFC South. We need a strong defense to compete with Houston.
We can also find offensive linemen in the later rounds. Players like:
Connor Lew
Logan Jones
Matt Gulbin
Sam Hecht
Jake Slaughter
Brian Parker II

Have a blessed day!

Jim: I'll run this by the GM, Darris!

Tony Johnson from Suffolk, Virginia
Question: Hey Jim, longtime Oilers/Titans fan since 1977.
My question is, with the draft approaching next week, are there any updates on extensions for Simmons and Skoronski?

Jim: No updates from the Borgonzi presser this week. He did say earlier this offseason it's on his list of priorities.

Eric Biederman from Franklin, Tennessee
Question: Hey Jim! Anything cool going on that the public can't see, or anything interesting you'd like to talk about? Thanks!

Jim: So, about these trick plays. Ever heard of the ol' Statue of Liberty play?

Have a great weekend everyone!
