NASHVILLE – The Titans have been criticized, scrutinized and vilified all week.
Now, it's about time to play another football game, and try and change the subject.
The Philadelphia Eagles are up next for the Titans, on Sunday at Nissan Stadium.

Question: Hey Jim and Titans Ohana. I don't have a question its more of a report, After my first trip to Nashville and a NFL game: The finish wasn't what we were hoping for and I hope we can do better in a lot of areas that I won't even mention as I have read in Tuesdays mailbag, But I want to say that Nashville was really fun, the people was super friendly and respectful, lots of good food, the music was awesome and the bars was lively and bumping, we ended getting a steak from Eddie V's which was on point, and Nashville hot chicken was really good., I will return for sure, I will just wait for the new stadium, the weather was really great, the day of the game was hot but being from Hawaii I felt like I was at home, you were right about shorts and t-shirts, funny thing happened on the way to the game when leaving the hotel, as we were waiting for the elevator to open and when it did there were 5 younger jets fans I would guess college age full face paint all decked out, first thing I did was tell them that they were going to get smashed, they were really cool about it we shook hands and said good luck today. The saddest thing I seen was all the Titans fans leaving early! We will see if things are to look better for us this week against the Eagles, all in all had a really great trip, lets TITAN UP!!!! Question: Hey Jim. I'm a die-hard Titans fan who wants nothing more than to see this franchise succeed, but after the recent game against the Jets, my faith in the direction of this team has taken a serious hit.
What really stung wasn't just the performance on the field—it was Cam Ward's response in the postgame press conference. When asked how hearing the boos from the stands made him feel, his reply was: "It doesn't make me feel in any type of way."
As someone who was there in person and ended up leaving early in the third quarter, that attitude is deeply concerning. Fans invest hard-earned money, time, and emotional energy into supporting this team through rebuilding phases with the promise of a "New Titans" era. When the starting quarterback openly shrugs off the frustration of an emptying stadium, it feels like a total disconnect from the people who keep the lights on.
How can franchise leadership continue to stand firmly behind a quarterback who seems indifferent to the fan base's frustration when we're failing to deliver on what was promised? At what point does accountability kick in—not just for on-field execution, but for recognizing how much this team's success means to its supporters? Thanks for your time and for giving us a voice.
Jim: Hey Will. I appreciate you taking the time, and for sharing your opinion.
Respectfully, I'm going to disagree. I can guarantee you Cam cares, and while he's never told me, I suspect the boos bother him. But he can't let them rattle him, and if he's ticked off by hearing them, he'd be roundly criticized if he said so. I know exactly what the response would be if he said it bothered him: Well, if you don't like hearing them, play better. So, he shrugs those questions off. I don't blame the fans for booing – the team was awful on Sunday, it was 100 degrees, the performance was a massive disappointment after the changes this offseason, and die-hard fans are frustrated by making the effort to get there, and seeing the team lose again and again and again. This has been going on since the middle of the 2022 season. On top of that, they had to hear Jets fans chant J-E-T-S over and over and over again. I've grown weary of writing about losses, and as a Nashville native, I'm not going to lie, it ticks me off seeing fans of the opposing team take over the stadium. I'm expecting it to be worse this Sunday. It's embarrassing for the team if you ask me, which you did. I understand everybody wants to come to Nashville. But fans of the opposing team shouldn't be able to get their hands on so many seats, and it speaks to how much the Titans fan base has lost interest in the team. I've been around long enough to know it hasn't always been like this. Props to the Titans fans who keep showing up. And, don't be fooled into thinking the boos, the dwindling support, and poor performance doesn't bother players and coaches who have a lot of pride, and spend 80-90 hours a week trying to get better. Question: Hi Jim. I have been a loyal fan of the Oilers/Titans for 46 years, and I absolutely love my team; I was looking forward to this season, and hoping that at least my team will win at least 7 games. But getting schooled by the lowly Jets was heartbreaking. Looking at schedule, the only team that I think we have chance against is the Browns, nevertheless, I am keeping a hopeful outlook that my fear of seeing us lose the remaining games, will not come to fruition. What are thoughts on my gloomy outlook?
Jim: Hello Isaak. Now this is a gloomy outlook. Hey, I'll tell it like it is: If the Titans play like they did against the Jets, they'll go 0-17. But I honestly think this team is better than that, and in time will prove it. I said coming into the season I think these Titans will double the win total from a year ago, and I'm not going to abandon that idea already. I want to see more games before counting this team out.

Question: Thank you for keeping us informed Jim with the Titans. I lived in Seattle for 10 years + I was a diehard fan 1984 moved until 1997 back home to Tennessee. If you watched that game Sunday against New York, with the money the team spent something just wasn't right they looked tried slow. I don't understand what happened even Simmons looked slow maybe they'll get better. I understand the fans booing; I mean you wouldn't want the fans clapping, doing the wave. As for Cam Ward, he has a better offense line than Will Levis had. You won't ever get any points if you don't throw that ball! Titan up!!

Question: First time writer. Just have one question. Do you think trading away Sweat was a huge mistake. Watching him chase Cam around against the jets made it seem pretty obvious. This guy was a 2nd round pick with high value at a low price and to trade him for a player who might be past him prime and is making way more seems like we made a bad decision. Simmons had his best year next to Sweat and I didn't see Simmons touch Geno once.
Jim: Hey Jarred. T'Vondre wasn't a good fit in the team's current defense. No, I don't think it was a mistake trading him away. I expect Jermaine Johnson (who he was traded for) will make more of an impact than he did on Sunday, and still not sure about Sweat. You're right that the pass rush was pretty much non-existent.

Question: In the words of Coach Mac Keep your powder dry!! It was only one game yes it was a disgusting game but as bad as the game was it still only counts for one loss. No one thought we were going 17-0 so let's stop with the doom and gloom we have a 2nd year quarterback that has the potential to be great yes I would like to see more improvement from him but for ppl to be calling him a bust already is ridiculous in my opinion the O- line didn't do him any favors D- line was manhandled Special teams didn't play up to standards so it's enough blame to go around but I believe in my team and I think they will right the ship. Not saying the criticism isn't warranted but let's not give up on the season just yet.

Question: Hey Jim. Long time reader, first time writer.
My wife and I attended the game last week and I just wanted to drop some positivity into the mailbag.
Yea the game wasn't what we hoped to see for a season opener, and that's probably all we need to say about that.
We only come up to 1-2 games a year, so we had an amazing time in Nashville. That's the big positive. Just an absolutely amazing atmosphere. A great time at Printer's Alley and Boqueria. This was our first time in the Club level at the stadium and boy did it deliver. Bbq brisket sundae. Sign me up! That thing was amazing.
There was awesome stadium specific merch and the view of the field was incredible. Watching a game in person if an entirely different experience than watching it on television and I had forgotten that.
All the Titans fans were great. We sat by an amazing couple with season tickets and became good friends and hope to see them again.
The national anthem was breathtaking. There must have been some pollen in the air, because my eyes got a little watery around that time. The energy before the game was amazing, and that's what I'll focus on.
Lots of good memories from this weekend, and after the game I made sure to go up to every Jets fan I saw to tell them good game and have a great season. Some were shocked, but everyone was cordial. I imagine they expected vitriol, but instead they received positivity, a fist bump, and a smile.
After all, there's always another game and it's always great to show southern hospitality. Titan Up!!!

Question: I'd say I'm looking forward to drafting Arch or Jeremiah Smith next year after watching week one. But with the holes we have, maybe we will finally trade the top 5 pick we will have and fill multiple roster spots that need help. Question: I hope the Cam Ward hate stops. He was brought into a rough situation last year. Everyone wanted him to start and be the savior but he has only been in the league for 18 games now. He needs time, we threw him in the fire and of course there's going to be growing pains. He has the right mentality and ability to do it though. We need to just be patient.
For the rest of the offense it starts with the offensive play calling . We gave up on the run to quickly. Of course they can just focus on rushing the passer when we don't run. We have to find a balance. Now the offensive line has to know to win games we will have to rely on them to do both. They will have to grow together and continue to develop to help the entire offense. Everything else will run once we get that flowing.
On defense yeah we definitely got leaned on in the run. But I also saw a defense that was out there consistently in 90+ degree weather. We had to punt consistently leading to them being on the field more than would be if we were able to maintain a drive. We had a turnover that put them right back out there after a long drive. I'd be tired too, of course they are professionals but they are human. With Anthony Hill being a bright spot, and Gray working his way back I think that will help with the run.
Point being we are okay, it's not easy to just turn around a franchise immediately. It takes time and culture building. We have to let it grow and get some consistency, and then we can succeed. I know it sucks seeing them lose but support is all we as fans can give! TITAN UP
Jim: I know a lot of fans want to see improvement, and wins, now. And, I get it. After 6-11, 3-14, and 3-14, it's time to see better results, and performances. Sunday's game was awful. I'd be ticked, too, if I'm a fan showing up every week and then having to sit through that mess vs the Jets. I think the team is better than that, and I think they'll prove it on Sunday. I agree the hate on Cam has gotten ridiculous. I can't guarantee you he's going to be an NFL star, and I also can't say he's going to be a bust either. In a hot take world, that doesn't get clicks. He's a work in progress, on a team that's clearly rebuilding, still with plenty of warts. I can guarantee you he's working his butt off.

Question: Hey Jim!!...Well we let that one get away didnt we. I bet this mailbag will be full of "fire coach" "cams a bust" "OL is a joke" but hey I get it , it wasn't what we was expecting to see after all the pieces were put into place. As far as the OL goes to me it looked like Cam held the ball a little to long on some plays and the Jets being a pro football team watches tape and knows hes in a new system will exploit that by blitzing and getting him nervous. Im sure the OL would like to have a few plays back as well.. we got work to do for sure it wasn't enough to win. I think we will see a slightly different approach when we play philly . Coach and staff will work at it till they get it right. 15 other teams are staring at 0 and 1 right now.. season's not over guys got a lot of ball left. If you're a fan quit yelling to fire your coach and booing ...try getting behind the team and rally ...trust me they hear you even if they say they dont they do..You want to help your team and be apart of it try that..they will hear that to........

Question: Hey Jim. I will never forget the day I became a Titans fan. I was in the Marine Corps on pre-deployment training and at the end we got to go to a bar and there was the Titans playing Jacksonville. I watched Derrick Henry run that ball and AJ Brown catch a dime from M.M. I've always been a Vols fan but from then on I was hooked on Titans football.
My question is: With all the new additions, player, coaches, gear, I know it's a young team, however the expectations I myself and others have is to watch the Titans be who they were at heart in the early 2000's and 2019. Is that level of playing something we can honestly expect from them this year? Or are our kids going to grow up wondering why we loved this team in the first place.
If I'm being honest we should have kept Henry, Brown and Vrabel that team, cared about Nashville and cared about winning, when can we expect to see that again, if at all this year!
Jim: Hey Gavin. Well, based on what we've seen so far, it's hard for me to forecast a playoff run is on the horizon. Again, I think the team is better than it showed on Sunday, but you're talking about teams from the early 2000s and the 2019 team that went to the AFC title game. I believe better days are ahead, but again, it's a work in progress. I can promise you everyone still cares about winning.

Question: Jim hope the football year gets better for you. I knew that after watching the game Sunday your incoming mail would burn the Titan organization and it has. I do understand that people, called fans, are not happy, I am not happy either. Do we give up on the Titans and let our home field become the field of the opposing team? I don't have an answer for how to get better but then I don't get paid to find that answer. I just want the "Fans" to let the coaching staff find out how to get better. Now the question, the birds played the Washington team and really did not run over them, do you think we have much of a chance in beating them? I do because the game ain't over till the horn blows. Jim: I do think the Titans have a chance. I don't like the chances of keeping Eagles fans out of the stadium, though. Brace for it to be a lot greener this Sunday than last Sunday.

Question: Hello Jim. First, I want to congratulate the New York Jets on the win. They came prepared, executed their plays, and, quite frankly, were the better team. I was at the game, and I have to admit, at times it felt like we were playing in MetLife Stadium.
I know this is only the first game, but if it is a precursor to the type of season we're going to have, we could be in for a rough ride.
My biggest question for you is about Cam Ward. I know it's easy to be an armchair quarterback, but what is it going to take for Cam to develop into an NFL quarterback who is consistently seeing the field and making the right reads?
I noticed several plays where receivers appeared to be wide open, yet Cam either didn't see them or didn't deliver the ball. It also seemed like when his first read wasn't there, he struggled to progress through his reads and find his next option. Hopefully, that's something that can be corrected with experience, coaching, and more time in the system.
I'm also concerned about the play calling. I thought it was very predictable at times and didn't put Cam in the best position to succeed. I understand it's only the first game, and there is plenty of football left to play, but I hope these issues can be addressed quickly.
This isn't the direction I was anticipating, especially with a new stadium being built. It's going to be difficult to fill those seats if the Titans continue putting this kind of product on the field.
I'd really like to hear your thoughts on Cam specifically. Do you think what we saw in this first game is mostly rookie growing pains, or are there legitimate concerns about his ability to develop into the quarterback we need him to be?

Jim: I've mentioned this in here, and in previous mailbags: Cam is a work in progress. I'm not going to write him off after 18 starts, because I've seen a lot of other guys struggle early in their career, before blossoming. If Twitter – or this mailbag – was around when Steve McNair started his career, I can only imagine the vitriol that would have come his way. Remember, it was Year 5 when he started to turn the corner, and he was on a much better team. I need more time before I make a definitive statement on Cam, one way or the other.

Question: Hi Jim. I have been a fan of the team since 1999. I bought PSLs in 2006 after graduating college, and drove 7 1/5 hours each way to every game for years to site in the very last row of the 3rd level of the stadium before selling them in 2012. I used to look forward to buying the gameday program to look for the little blurb that was always there noting that day as the 100th straight sellout, 130th straight sellout, etc. It didn't matter if it was a 2-win season or a 13-win season, the fans showed up because they knew the team was going to show up and give everything they had.
I also remember the moment that I felt that shift. When Darius Reynaud fielded the Week 1 opening kickoff on the 1, then kneeled into the end zone for a safety to give the Steelers the fastest score in NFL history, 1 second into Week 1. It felt like the team wasn't prepared to play & didn't care enough to even know the rules. I remember thinking if the team doesn't care, then why would the fans continue to show up and care?
Everyone makes a big deal that in recent years the away team takes over the stadium. That is because the away team has the belief that their team cares and will show up to play a football game. The home fans have not been given the luxury of that belief. It felt like there was a real opportunity for that belief to return Sunday, if the football team gave any reason for it to come back. There was a disheartening moment in the game by Ward, which just gave the feeling that he was giving up. With 1:45 left in the 3rd quarter, 3rd & 8 with Jets up 20-3, Ward was flushed from the pocket, jogged to the right sideline, and stepped out of bounds for a 1 yard loss. You are down 3 scores going into the 4th quarter, it is 3rd down ... why not put the ball in the air and give your guys a chance? Watching that, I felt the same way I did in 2013 when Reynaud opened the season by kneeling for a safety. Just a complete lack of care & waving the white flag. In that moment, Ward looked like someone who didn't want to be on the football field and was happy to get to 4th down.
To be fair, Ward wasn't the only one not caring. Will the Titans ever again field another team that has enough pride to go out and play like they care?
Jim: Hey Michael. You've been a great and loyal fan, no doubt. … There was no "shift" when Reynaud took a knee that day in Pittsburgh, you're just being dramatic. That was just a bad play by a guy who made a mistake. Hell, the Titans won that game … And, let's admit it, the Titans were done when they fell behind 20-3 on Sunday. The offense was stuck in the mud all day, and the defense was underwhelming to say the least. These Titans care, they just laid a big egg in the opener. I think you'll see more fight against the Eagles. If not, this is going to be a long season.

Question: Hi Jim. I'm really trying not to think "here we go again" after sunday's loss, but it's hard not to. When they hired Saleh, I was confused as to why Ms Amy and Mike Borganzi thought it was a good idea to have a head coach who was fired, as head coach, after 3 seasons and 5 games into his fourth with the Jets due to his 20-36 record? Granted he did fine as D coordinator with the 49ers in 2025 but he was lousy as a head coach before that. I'm scratching my head, just like I've done every time the Titans grab a free agent who's talent is waining or is coming off an severe injury. I'm not convinced they'll win even one game this season. I'm very sad because I've been a die hard titans fan since they came to Nashville. I have a feeling the remaining home games will be filled with opposing fans. I feel bad for the team. If Ward gets through the season without injuries, I guess we can consider that a win.
Jim: Appreciate you weighing in, Connie. But again, it's one game. I can think of several other teams that stunk it up in Week 1, too.

Question: Good afternoon Jim, this isn't a question but more of an observation. Sunday yes was a disappointment for myself along with a lot of other Titans fans but between the other news media outlets and so called fans Rome wasn't built in a day. Almost an entirely new coaching staff and 60% new players or somewhere in that percentage. It's going to take time for everyone to play as a team let alone a well oiled team (machine). Thanks for reading this and hopefully the true fans will give it some time. Titan up as always

Question: Hi Jim! Definitely a frustrating weekend.
It's not surprising to me that so many fans are ready to give up on the season already, but I have been a little surprised to see so many prominent media members doomsaying so early. Are you and I the only ones who recognize that sometimes it takes more than one game to build a winning program for new coaches with young players?
I'm remembering so many instances of this happened. The 3-14 Raiders beat the AFC champ Pats at Foxboro week 1 just last year. Beyond that, what Saleh and Daboll are building here won't happen overnight. I understand wanting to see good football, but I don't understand throwing a tantrum when they don't look good immediately. Josh Allen's Bills didn't look any good on offense until year 3. Imagine if Bills fans had given up on him after his first two seasons.
Watching the game, the defense couldn't get off the field. We only got to see Cam and the offense a very small sample of times. I thought Cam looked week-one sloppy, but facing that same pressure last year, he would have had multiple turnovers. He did a good job working with what our line gave him, and played safe. Our defense just allowed the Jets everything they wanted.
New defensive schemes take time to synergize. Give it time- I guarantee you by November we'll be having a very different conversation about this defense.
How are you expecting the team to respond?
Jim: Hey Jake. I think the Titans will show up ready to play on Sunday against the Eagles, but I'll be the first to admit I was surprised with how bad things looked in Week 1. I know Robert Saleh has said the team will get better as the season goes on, and the Titans set the bar really low in the opener. I think the team had a good week of practice. We're about to get some more answers.
