NASHVILLE – Well, that was a real clunker.
Sunday's 26-3 loss to the Texans was the low point for the 2026 Titans, who need to find a way to get things some things fixed, and fast.
Next up is a trip to Indianapolis to face the Colts.
But first, let's dive into this Tuesday's jam-packed Titans mailbag.
Here's the link to ask questions: CLICK HERE.
Jeff Harris from Smyrna, Tennessee
Question: I'm an original PSL holder and have attended 98% of the games over the last 27 years and I have purchased PSL for the new stadium and I'm a very optimistic person. But what I saw on the field Sunday gives me minimal hope about this team. I know Cam needs more time but I wish he could show some signs to make us feel better about his future. I know Saleh defense track record is strong , but I refuse to believe playing Barton over Gray in the nickel and dime packages makes sense. With more experience, Gray and Hill could be the best LB tandem in the league and this season is the perfect time to let them develop. Lastly despite our poor records over the last 4 seasons, I'm more disappointed how the Titans organization has treated the longtime season ticket holders who go to every game and doesn't sell their tickets. I won't take the space to go into the details of this. I will to continue to support my team and hope we eventually figure things out with the product on the field and the customer service to the loyal fans. Thanks for the info you share!!
Jim: Thanks for taking the time, Jeff. Sunday's game was brutal, and discouraging. I understand your frustration, and I understand the frustration of all of the team's fans. That was bad football. The head coach knows this, and so should everyone else. Cam has to play better, too, and he has to give fans – and coaches – reason to believe.
Andrew Brown from Leeds, West Yorkshire, England
Question: Hey Jim. I've written in a few times and I'm normally he positive one who looks for the good in the team.
The Offense is getting embarrassing now, We draft Tate to not use him, and frankly Cam Ward is going backwards. Im getting very worried about his decision making. I know we say week after week the players need to play better but cmon this coaching team cant be up to it, We have a team on paper that is not an 0-5 team and should have won 3 of these games minimum. The coaching staff cannot get them to play and its going to be a long ass season im afraid. We are clearly going to have another first pick in the draft and i hope to god we use it effectively this time because i cannot see how this team gets better at the moment and that is really depressing me!
Jim: Hang in there, Andrew! Sorry to see the sadness has reached the United Kingdom.
Chris Dixon from Florence, Alabama
Question: Jim. I have never written to you but I read this section every week. I was at the very first game in then Adelphia Coliseum and have been there for many ups and downs. I always felt like we had a chance of winning every game, but now this culture of losing has become more prevalent than I ever imagined. Our stadium is taken over by the opponent and seems we just hope not to get blown out. Now, versus Texas, I think we have reached an absolute low and I don't see a win this season. When does this stop?
Jim: I appreciate you reading, Chris. I wish I could tell you the end date.
I thought Sunday's performance, and result, might be a new low point. The team has now lost 51 of the last 63 games, and sits at 0-5. I do think the team is better than it showed on Sunday, and it has played better football at times. But folks are tired of hearing about that, and want to see better results. And, I totally understand why.
Peter Tsomides from Saco, Maine
Question: Hey Jim, I usually write in once a year or so. I've been holding off this year. I'm really disappointed and embarrassed. What seems to be the problem with this team? Is it the coaching? Is it the quarterback? Is it the offensive line? Is it everything? What would it take to get this team going in the right direction? Do we have the wrong quarterback? Are we going to get the number one pick again and draft another quarterback? I look at the schedule what's ahead and I just do not see a win in the cards. I'm starting to wonder if we should just go with a veteran quarterback to get through whatever this so-called rebuild is and try to get something established. I wouldn't mind losing games if they weren't so ugly, but these are downright ugly losses.
Jim: Appreciate you jumping in, Peter. There's no doubt the quarterback needs to play better, but if the OC is going to get credit when things go well, then he has to take some blame when things go poorly, and right now, things are going poorly. This team is averaging 11.6 points per game, and on Sunday didn't score a touchdown. The team hasn't run the ball well, the o-line was a real issue Sunday, and the receivers just haven't consistently made plays. And why aren't the tight ends more involved? So, yeah, I guess it's everything.
Will Casey from Lebanon, Tennessee
Question: Subject: Growing Frustration.
Hi Jim. I have been a dedicated supporter and season ticket holder through thick and thin, but Sunday's game against the Texans was by far one of the absolute worst performances I have seen this team put on the field all season. Watching an offense manage only three points at home while the lower bowl empties out midway through the third quarter is painful enough, but that back-foot interception straight into the chest of a defender with not a single two-tone blue jersey anywhere in the area was completely inexcusable. It looked like pure panic and a total lack of preparation.
What makes this even harder to stomach is the timing of the recent organizational moves. Just prior to this game, the team parted ways with three executives on the business side. My question is simple: How exactly does firing three executives in business operations, marketing, and ticketing—people who have nothing to do with play-calling, scheme, or quarterback development—help this football team fix what is broken on the field?
To the fans who invest our hard-earned money and time in these seats, rearranging front-office desk chairs while the on-field product continues to deteriorate makes zero sense. When is ownership going to hold the people actually responsible for the football decisions accountable?
Jim: I hear ya, Will. It was a terrible game, and I admit, seeing all the empty seats is discouraging, to say the least. As for the firings you're referring to, they had absolutely nothing to do with the performance of the football team. And, those decisions were never aimed at fixing what's broken on the field. I think it's safe to say ownership has had no problem holding the people who make who make football decisions accountable. Head coaches, GMs and others on the football side have been fired and replaced multiple times in recent years. I know a lot of people think that it has happened too often.
Charles Nickles from Hot Springs, Arkansas
Question: Thanks again Jim for doing this mailbag. I don't blame the coaches. I don't blame Cam Ward at all. I do blame the folks who decided a fourth-rounder should be the #1 overall pick, because this is generational talent. No QB was going to fix the mess our Titans have become, especially Cam Ward. Yet we drafted him #1 overall and told him to go fix our team....impossible ask. I hate to be sour, but the only thing generational is our lack understanding how to draft and sign free agents. How can we consistently be this bad at it?
Jim: Hey Charles. We have great representation from Arkansas in this mailbag. It's been a brutal stretch, dating back to the middle of the 2022 season. I have to admit, I never thought this stretch of bad football would last this long.
Tobias Hildesheim from Hamburg, Germany
Question: Jim! When will it end? This team is so disappointing, I can't take it anymore. How many years since we played even decent football? Nobody should even dare saying "we're close", "we're just a couple of plays away", "we're better than the record says"! No, we are not! I wonder if this can be considered professional football. Everybody has to take a look in the mirror and ask himself, if he does everything he can. And if the answer is Yes, than I'm sorry, you're not good enough for the NFL. It seems like their message to the fans every week is: You think, last week was bad? Watch this! I don't know. This team sucks the fun out of football.
Jim: I hear ya, Tobias, all the way from Germany.
Eric Koehler from Gallatin, Tennessee
Question: I have to ask the question: Has this organization given up on Cam? I know the o-line is giving up less sacks but we are 47th in the run game and it looks like Cam's elusiveness is why we have less sacks. The penalties this week were absolute killers. On a different note, why is this organization letting local media talk to Cam the way they do? A lot of the questions aren't critical or "tough", they are rude and mean spirited. Someone in the organization needs to stand up for that young man.
Jim: Whoever started the narrative the team is allowing, promoting or even helping facilitate members of the media generating viral moments with questions to Cam isn't very savvy, in my opinion. Give me a break with this nonsense. Surely, you don't believe this, too, Eric?
Jefferson Pendergrass from Rainsville, Alabama
Question: Hi Jim. No question here, I just want to offer-up one positive thing about Cam Ward: He is one tough ombré! He took quite a few hard shots on Sunday and he always got up and played the next play. A lot of other quarterbacks might have been tempted to "play hurt" after some of those shots and come out of the game as bad as things were going. I really appreciate Cam for his durability and perseverance. He did not miss a single available play on offense on Sunday. He has started every single game of his career since he was drafted (22 games thus far). And many other quarterbacks cannot say the same thing (e.g. Jack Locker, Marcus Mariota, and Lamar Jackson just to name a few). I said this about Cam Ward last year and I will say it about him again this year - he is at least always available to play. And as the saying goes: "The best ability is availability." No one can deny Cam's toughness and durability.
Jim: Yeah, Jefferson, Cam definitely got rocked a few times. If that keeps happening, one of these times he won't get up. The Titans need to protect Cam a lot better than they did Sunday.
Jeffrey Heard from Fort Dodge, Kansas
Question: This team needs to sit Ward to show the game is bigger than himself. He throws to the sideline more than a Titans player. When he does pass inside the lines he must think players are 15 foot tall, he ALWAYS throws too high, too long, sideline, or even the opposing team!!
He needs to be humbled by sitting the bench and realizing this team is not playing for him. Leadership is the one talent owners/ scouts ALWAYS overlooks.
Jim: Personally, I don't think Cam needs to be humbled by sitting him down. Heck, the games should be doing that. Cam doesn't have an attitude problem. And, he needs to play because the Titans need to decide whether he's going to be their guy or not. The team won't find that with him sitting on the bench, and personally, I'd rather find out this year than kick the can down the road.
Tommy Meyer from San Antonio, Texas
Question: Howdy Jim, I watched the game Sunday and to be honest I saw the caliber of play and the same mistakes the team has been making all year. The sad part is the offensive line actually looked worse. I have to say the interception was not Ward's fault that clearly falls on Dan Moore. Ward was harassed from the opening kickoff. I have to give him credit he took some brutal hits and kept getting up. The way it looks this team is a long way from being competitive. We can only hope the team can pull things together, they have some great players but still have too many holes to fill. The truth is they can build a competitive team by signing cast offs from other teams. Count how many players have been signed and turned out to be less than expected, A few have been good but not many. Take a deep breath and get ready for a rebuild. I just hope management will not pull the trigger on this coaching staff and let them have time to implement their program. Thanks
Jim: Up until Sunday, I thought the offensive line had played pretty well. But the unit had a bad day against a Texans defense that ate their lunch, and frankly, should have embarrassed them. Dan Moore Jr. said himself after the game he didn't do his job very well, but others need to play better as well.
John Powell from Jacksonville, Florida
Question: Hey Jim, hope you are having an okay week after a 5th straight miserable performance. I'm writing as a fan in enemy territory, and as the only Titans fan in my family and at my school, I need somewhere to vent my frustration. 5 straight losses to start the year, and this game was arguably our worst yet. I read the mailbag every Tuesday and Saturday, and it is filled with fans who are overly optimistic, saying that "we almost won" two games. Well… we obviously did not, and you don't get awarded for almost winning anything. I cannot fathom how teams like the Raiders and Browns can flip the script after their terrible seasons last year but we cannot, when the browns arguably have less talent that last season, and the Raiders made the same amount of offseason additions we did. I think it is time to admit that we just don't have it this year. We need to figure out what "it" is so that we can win some damn games. Ultimately, my question for you is this: As someone who is actually in the building with the team, is the work ethic of the players worse than previous years? That is all I can think of as to why we are so bad. Also, does Saleh not ever crash out on these guys? He seems so nonchalant in all of his postgame interviews, like he knows he can just pull the "rebuilding" card when confronted about the 0-5 record. I know my coach doesn't hold back when my team is not performing, so I figure there must be some tough conversations being had in the building right now. Thanks for dealing with us angry fans Jim, you're a saint.
Jim: Hey John. I'm not blowing smoke when I say the spirit of the team, and preparation, has been good leading up to games. It's what makes a performance like Sunday even more perplexing. Through five games, I think three of the games have been real duds, and I'm counting the Jets, Giants and Texans games as the three. The Eagles game was more competitive, and the Ravens game had its moments, but there were stretches of subpar football in those games, too. Overall, the product hasn't been very good. Saleh does a good job keeping his composure, and he's never going to be a guy who throws furniture or makes a scene. But I do think there are some tough conversations being had behind closed doors. Players usually police themselves a bit, too. Appreciate the kind words. I'm no saint, and I hate the team has put fans in a position where they are now pissed off most of football season.
Richard Colestock from St Cloud, Florida
Question: Hi Jim. What's happened to our 2nd year QB? Not only do I not see much of an improvement....he looks beaten down. No fire, no emotion...he looks like he just going through the motions. If it works, it works....if it doesn't....who cares.
Cam looks NOTHING like the QB he was at Miami!
We may not even get to 3 wins this year...and I'd bet Cam won't be the Titans QB next year if things don't turn around SOON.
SO disappointed to see all the empty seats in the house as well.
That was a really tough game to watch!
Jim: Hey Richard. I have no doubt Cam cares. He's working, and it means a lot to him. But you're right, it's been a struggle. Being completely honest, I thought he'd be better at this point.
Scott Caldwell from Dresden, Ohio
Question: Mr. Jim , when is enough ,enough?
I kinda expected the Texans to win the game ,but I did not expect the blow out that occurred.
The excuses are non and void. Its time to look at the real problem.
Look at Titans history with drafting quarterbacks. Jake Locker, Vince Young, Marcus Mariota , Will levis and now Cam Ward. These young quarterbacks have been thrown out into the fire, instead of sitting and learning behind a seasoned vet. Case in point , Marcus was struggling, so they brought in Tannehill, a seasoned vet. Titans had some good seasons with that guy!
Its time to let Mitch Tribisky lead this team . ill bet the offense will be better.
Cam may be a good backup and even be a better quarterback down the road. We really have nothing to lose at this point.
And by the way, those people clamoring for us to draft Arch Manning next year, forget about it , knowing the Mannings, he would never play for a horrible losing team like the Titans, whether he was drafted ,or not. Check their history. As a final thought ,wouldn't it be wonderful for the Titans to select the best number one wide receiver in the draft ,buckeye Jeremiah Smith ? You need a good quarterback to throw to him.
In closing , anyway , if the Titans draft the best star ,stud running back next year , whether they win ,or lose , at least there will be some exciting highlights during the game. And that my friend , is interest , and hope.
Jim: Hey Scott. I don't get the sense the coaching staff has any plans to bench Cam for Trubisky. Saleh said himself Cam is the QB for this year. I'd like to see the team win games, too. I also think we need to know this year whether Cam is the guy. Like I said earlier, I don't want to kick the can further down the road. It's a shame that this is what this season is beginning to turn into, but does anyone want to be finding out whether Cam can do it or not this time next year?
Dick Clodfelter from Bell Buckle, Tennessee
Question: Dear Jim. Love your Mail Bag, I expect it will be loaded with rants after the embarrassing debacle against the Texans. No question this time, just a rant. Obviously the Titans aren't getting any better. Looking now at Cam Ward, and previously at Levis, perhaps it's time to acknowledge that the former and current Titans management and coaches just may be not be capable of developing a successful NFL quarterback and instead should give up on that approach. In fairness to Cam, he should be traded to a team that can provide the development and team support he requires and deserves before he suffers a serious injury that impacts his trade and career potential. It is unfair to all Titan fans, those who pay for the expensive privilege of occupying (or reselling) their stadium seats, and those who follow the team from home or elsewhere, to continue down this winless road. Play Trubisky or some other veteran quarterback, call good plays on offense, play better pass defense, stop stupid penalties, AND GET SOME WINS BEFORE THIS SEASON ENDS!
Jim: Appreciate you reading, Dick. You're right – the mailbag is loaded with rants!
Adrian Lopez from Caracas, Venezuela
Question: Hey Jim...
Chuck Rhoten from Kingsport, Tennessee
Question: I cannot believe how this franchise has become the joke of the NFL. We have had bad drafts bad signings and terrible coaching hires. I feel they need a complete change. New ownership, new front office, coaches, and a lot of new players. Moore Jr has to be benched. There has to be a better LT not signed, anyone would be better. Latham is also bad. All the money we spent on the DBs was a waste. They cannot cover anyone. Our offense is a joke, Ward is not an NFL starting quarterback, we should not have drafted him at #1. This team is bad at every faze of the game. I hate to say this but I hope we trade Simmons because he deserves a chance at a ring. I'm sure we would let him go for nothing. I do not see any turnaround for this team this year. If there are not any changes from the top down this team will be a joke for years to come. Another 0-4 team just made us look like a bad high school team.
Jim: Other than these examples, Chuck, things aren't too bad, huh?
Greg Serheev from Chester, New Jersey
Question: Hello Jim. I've never in all my life watching the NFL have never seen a more worse OL in history. The Titans are the only team that actually get worse every year. How is it that every other team in this league gets better and are able to figures their issues out? Does it really take 5 years to get a good OL?? Year after year our OL continues to be the worst in the league but we still manage to pay hundreds of millions of dollars for trash/busts. Does anyone know anything about football in this organization? Drafting bust after bust after bust!! Millions and millions wasted on free agency and what did we get?? What is going on here??!!
Jim: It was a bad performance by the o-line on Sunday, Greg, we agree on that and I touched on this earlier. But before Sunday, Cam had been sacked six times in four games, and that's not too bad. I understand the frustration with Dan Moore because he's been a repeat offender when it comes to lapses. But some others had been doing their jobs until Sunday.
Michael Thornton from York, South Carolina
Question: Jim, I hate to say it, but I do not think that this team could beat a drum. Sunday's play was dismal at best. Perhaps it is time for the coaching staff, management and the players do a lot of soul searching. I thought that Cam would have developed more by now but to no avail. Maybe next year.
Jim: I'm not throwing the towel in on this season yet, Michael. My thoughts of a six-win season obviously isn't looking so great, but I'm not cashing out on the season with 12 games left.
Clinton Mcfalls from Hickory, North Carolina
Question: I didn't watch much of the game Sunday. Tired of the Titans ruining my day of rest before the work week starts. Doesn't look like I missed much. Did you know that since 2000 the Titans have had 12 winning seasons. Take away 5 of those cause they were 9-7. So in the 26 years of supporting this organization there's been 7 enjoyable seasons. If you add up the hours on the bad seasons it's 620 hours or 26 full days of wasting my time watching them. I don't blame the players. This is the most exciting WR core I've seen in a long time. This organization is just bad. They had Vrabel and fired him with a winning record. Hired Hawthorne and it's went downhill ever since. Our defensive scheme is the softest in the NFL. Every team picks us apart with the short passes/ soft coverage. And our offense is a joke. Time to start supporting the home team I guess. Have a good day Jim
Jim: Consider yourself fortunate that you didn't sit through three hours of that game, Clifton. But c'mon, when doing the math on winning seasons, you can't just throw out the 9-7 seasons. Throw out the 7-9 seasons if you're picking and choosing. I'm not familiar with Hawthorne.
Ryan Jones from Dover, Arkansas
Question: Jim, watching the Titans vs Texans game I was really happy that our defense was forcing them to kick field goals. I was thinking "Now only if our offense can make a play here." But then field goals added up and we couldn't produce anything on offense. Then it all fell apart and we couldn't come back. I would be wrong to throw all the blame on Cam Ward as some people are, but he definitely needs work. 5 sacks was bad. What can we do to win and do you think there is even a win in our future?
Jim: Is there a win in the future? Well, the team is going to have to play a lot better than it did on Sunday.
Luke Jones from Lamar, Arkansas
Question: Hey Jim. As president of the unofficial Mitchell Trubisky Fan Club, I am required to send my weekly plea to the Tennessee Titans. Cam threw a pick without a touchdown in the loss against the Texans, which is quite a poor performance. Why not give the QB with playoff experience and whose last game ended in 4 touchdowns take the lead? This organization will never succeed unless something is changed, as that obvious change is Mitchell Trubisky. Thank you.
Jim: I'll cast your vote, Luke.
Blain Cunningham from Lufkin, Texas
Question: Hi Jim. Long time Oilers/Titans fan who is starting to get extremely sick to my stomach. There have been a lot of highs and lows and the lows are getting worse. We haven't, in my opinion, had any resemblance of good coaching across the board in a very long time. We have so often been out coached at every level when we have had some really good players on both sides of the ball. I thought our new head coach was a terrible gamble based on his last stint at that position and well, this insanity speaks for itself. The OC was not a good hire either and I just cannot understand what made him seem like the best of the bunch. He has nothing on Downing. We always have players who are decent then come to us via free agency and cannot compete. Not always the case- Dan Moore just plain sucks. JC is never going to be better than average if he is lucky. How can we continue to miss on drafting a good qb? Hell, I think Ward could be good but he isn't being coached right obviously. I know this is a rebuild but it has been forever!! I think 0-17 is the most likely scenario which is such a shame with the talent we do have. We need to clean house AGAIN and try to emulate the success of the good teams in the league that are always hitting in free agency and the draft. This is crazy! Am I completely off base with this line of thinking Jim? Take care and thanks for what you do.
Jim: Appreciate the email, Blain. Believe me, I get why you're mad. I've been watching the same games you have, and they've been bad. I do think it's too early to come after Robert Saleh. He inherited a team that finished 3-14 in back-to-back seasons, so he needs more time to establish what he's trying to build. I'm not going to pretend I know more about football than the offensive coaches do, because I don't. But yeah, it's been pretty underwhelming on offense so far, to say the least. They'd better figure some things out or this is going to continue. Moore needs to get better, JC Latham has been better. Lastly, no one is cleaning house in October this year. If this team is going to get better, the folks in their current positions are going to have to make it happen.
Luis Linares from Ciudad de Mexico
Question: Hola, Jim.
Steve G from Christiana, Tennessee
Question: Been a fan since the Titans came to Nashville. Season ticket member for the past several years. Even allowed myself to get ripped off for my seats in the new stadium. All that to say, something has to give. The past few years have been absolutely terrible. Worst I have seen in my time as a fan. Sadly made the joke Sunday that the loudest the stadium has been this year was during the north vs south end zone noise challenge. Anyways, the history the past few years has me anxiously waiting to see who gets fired next. Hope all is well, Jim!
Jim: Sounds like you're a trooper, Steve.
John Greene from Ashland City, Tennessee
Question: I started buying season tickets in 1998 and went to all the games till 23. in 99 playoff's was the best ,Then 3 years ago had open heart surgery not been able to attend a game and glad I haven't wasted a $ on this. We Know you're going to hear the boo birds this week , and they are not wrong , out played out coached Offence should be ashamed ! The OC play calling is a joke, make up an injury hurt his back ,flu got family issues ,replace him ,plus just don't start Cam !! He's getting worse it's time to show him it's not OK !! We all know Mitch isn't the answer but he can't do much worse and who cares if he does this is sad ! This hurts watching
Jim: Hope you've recovered well, John. The offense hasn't been good for sure, expected better. No excuse why it's not better if you ask me.
Chuy Cano from Corpus Christi, Texas
Question: Man, for a 2nd there I thought it was gonna b another loss by field goals...nope just another painful, disappointing game Jim. So many penalties and sacks! But I do have a legitimate question. Do u think Amy the owner reads the mailbag....and if she did.....do u think she would feel the same way us fans do? I don't think i would read the fan mailbag if my team was 0-5. Have some tough teams coming up. Stack the losses Jim. I think the only good Sunday we're gonna have is bye week 😔🤦♂️. Titan up
Jim: Good to hear from you, Chuy. Don't know who is reading the mailbag, but I'm still getting a whole bunch of emails from fans writing in.
Alan Walker from Walland, Tennessee
Question: Hey, Jim. If anyone in this organization deserves a raise, it's you! I certainly appreciate, and don't envy, what you do. I have an odd question. Before Sunday, have you ever saw a QB throw a short pass to a RB who is laying on his back behind the line of scrimmage? And the RB catches it? In the NFL? Despite that, I am still a Titans fan and am looking forward to the completion of this rebuilding process and seeing the Titans go deep in the playoffs, and hopefully a Super Bowl! One minor problem with this is I am getting pretty old…..
Jim: I'll pass this along, Alan. 😊 I want to see improvement as well. I heard someone say the morale is bad in the building. The team is 12-51 in the last 63 games, and it hasn't won back-to-back games since the 2022 season. Of course the morale isn't good; everyone is ticked off because the team is consistently losing. The way to improve morale is by winning some football games. I'm not getting any younger either …
Have a great week everyone!
