TRAINING CAMP PREVIEW: RUNNING BACKS
In camp (6): Michael Carter, Julius Chestnut, Kalel Mullings, Tony Pollard, Nick Singleton, Tyjae Spears.
Player to watch: Tyjae Spears. Spears was a standout last offseason, but an ankle injury in the preseason opener halted his momentum and forced him to start the season on Injured Reserve. Spears flashed during the season, but his impact wasn't as big as I initially thought it would be. Heading into 2026, Spears has once again impressed this offseason. In new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll's offense, Spears has a chance to have a bigger role as a runner, and in the passing game.
What I've seen so far: After all the buzz about Jeremiyah Love leading up to the NFL Draft, things looked pretty familiar during the offseason. Veteran running back Tony Pollard was once again doing his thing out of the backfield, looking steady and reliable, with Spears flashing as well. Fifth-round pick Nick Singleton was limited early in the offseason as he recovered from his college injury, but he looked comfortable and more impressive in the latter OTAs. Michael Carter, previously with the Cardinals, had his moments, while returning backs Julius Chestnut and Kalel Mullings competed as well.
What I think the Titans need to see in camp: For starters, the Titans hope all these guys can stay healthy, and competing, throughout camp, and the preseason. The hunch here is the team will end up keeping four running backs on the 53-man roster. Barring injury, Pollard, Spears and Singleton figure to be in the mix, with the race on for the fourth spot. Head coach Robert Saleh called Pollard and Spears the team's "bell cows" at the position during the offseason, but the Titans would love to see Singleton surge in camp, and in preseason games. The fight for the extra spot will hinge on special teams. Throw practice squad opportunities into the equation and five of the six currently on the roster could end up being around in September.
Next up: Tight ends.
