NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota threw for just 88 yards in Sunday's win over the Giants, but that was OK by him.
Running back Derrick Henry was rolling, and that helps everyone, Mariota said on Tuesday.
"It helps the offense tremendously," Mariota said of Henry, who has racked up 408 yards and six touchdowns in the past two games. "When you are able to do that and get in third and manageable, you have an opportunity to throw the ball down the field. So we definitely have to continue to do that.
"I'm the No.1 fan," Mariota continued, discussing the success in the run game. "I think a good running game is important for an offense to be successful. … For me, I am all about it. We have to continue to do that. I think it really helps us get into situations where we get in a rhythm, we can do different things. So I love it."
On Saturday, the Titans face the Redskins, who are ranked 18th in the NFL in total defense.
The Redskins are 13th in the NFL in scoring defense.
"I think they've done a great job on defense, to be honest with you," Mariota said of the Redskins. "They've got some veteran guys throughout, and they've done a good job getting after the passer. And from what I have seen, they've done a good job of attacking the football.
"So ball security for us is going to be important, making sure that no matter what we finish every play with the ball."
Walker Walking
Titans tight end Delanie Walker said on Tuesday he's on schedule in his recovery from the broken ankle he suffered in Week One.
He's out of the walking boot, and he was cleared to walk roughly 10 days ago. Right now, Walker is doing workouts in the pool, and he's able to walk on a treadmill. He's focused on strengthening his calf and quad muscles, he said, to make the injury heal faster.
Walker said he's not sure when he'll be cleared to run. Walker said he's missing the game, but said he's trying to be patient while fielding questions on his timetable.
"I still have a ways to go," Walker said of his recovery. "That's what everyone is asking me -- What's the time limit? That's something we don't know. This is the type of injury you don't want to rush."
Orakpo Update
Titans linebacker Brian Orakpo missed Sunday's game vs the Giants with an elbow injury, and his status for this week's game against the Redskins falls in the "to be determined" category.
In the locker room on Tuesday, Orakpo said he's feeling good, but he declined to go into specifics about the injury.
"I'm getting better day by day," Orakpo said. "We'll see where we're at by the end of the week."
Orakpo said he's rehabbing the injury and said his plan "is to come back as fast as possible, but at the same time make sure I am myself. I can't be out there where I am limited.
"We'll see how it goes," Orakpo said. "I am very optimistic about how my body is responding so far."
