LP and Titans help build a home for deserving family

NASHVILLE, TN, April 29, 2007—LP Building Products and the Tennessee Titans teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to build a brand new home for one deserving Nashville family.   The two companies joined forces this past season by making a financial donation for every point the Titans scored during the 2006 season to help build a home for Yvette Thompson and her family.

The formal dedication of the home took place on Sunday, April 29th, yet the Thompson family moved into their new home in early April.

Employees from LP Building Products, the Tennessee Titans and community volunteers pulled together to complete the home during the month of March.  The Titans Cheerleaders put the finishing touches on the beautiful home and gave encouragement to the Thompson family on the last day of the build.

"We are excited about our partnership with LP Building Products and building this house for the Thompson family is just one of many things we plan to accomplish together," said Don MacLachlan, EVP of Administration and Facilities.  "I want to thank all of the employees of LP and the Titans that came out to make this happen."

Born and raised in the Music City, Thompson lived in an apartment with her mother and five brothers and sisters her entire life. Home ownership seemed like an unreachable dream.  Thompson says owning a home is her way of seeing a better life for her kids.

"Thank you, LP and the Tennessee Titans and my new Nashville Habitat family for making my dreams come true!" said Thompson.

While her mother always provided a happy and loving home, Thompson longed to have her own house and yard, often reflecting on how much fun her cousins had living in their own house and playing outside together.
When Habitat for Humanity, which provides safe and affordable housing for families that could not otherwise own a home, informed LP about Yvette's situation, her dream became reality.

"All the odds were against me, but with prayer and courage, my family will have a home," said Thompson, who has two children – 15-year-year-old daughter Ya'minika and nine-year-old son Mack. "If it were not for this opportunity through Habitat, I think we would always live in an apartment and never get out of that cycle."

Habitat home owners meet strict criteria, including saving a down payment, qualifying for a low-interest Habitat mortgage, and donating hundreds of hours of sweat equity into building their own and others' homes.

Thompson and her family were introduced to fans prior to Tennessee's season finale vs. New England at LP Field, where Titans owner K.S. "Bud" Adams, Jr. and LP President and CEO Rick Frost presented a $58,000 check to Ann Harmer with the Nashville Habitat for Humanity.  In addition to teaming with the Titans, LP is sponsoring a second home (LP Foundation House) for Nashville resident Matrice Walker and her 21-month old son Tevin.

"This is a rare opportunity for LP to align with a great organization, the Tennessee Titans, as well as the National Football League, the most prestigious brand in sports," stated LP CEO Rick Frost.  "We are committed to making this sponsorship successful for our company, our customers and the Nashville community." LP also helped supply building materials in the 10 markets in which the Titans played road games in during the 2006 season, in addition to offering assistance to Habitat for Humanity.

Clearly, the partnership with LP has truly been a wonderful thing, as two organizations work together to help bring a greater appreciation for throughout the community on and off the field.  Not only have the two worked together to provide one lucky family a house, but during the season, the Titans and LP also joined forces for the LP Pencil Box Drive in September.
