Game Notes: Titans vs. Bills

The Titans allowed 14 points, registering their third game of 2019 in which they allowed 14 or fewer points. The Titans are allowing 15.2 points per game through five weeks. It is the lowest amount allowed by the team through five games since 2008 (11.2).

·         For the fifth consecutive game to begin the season, the Titans allowed 20 or fewer points. Since 1999, there have been only two other Titans squads that did not allow more than 20 points in any of their first five games: the 2000 team (seven games) and the 2008 team (six). The Titans are one of only four NFL teams to hold opponents to 20 or fewer points every week in 2019. The others are the Bills, New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers (three games through Oct. 6).

·         The Titans recorded one takeaway against the Bills—an interception by Kevin Byard—and did not commit a turnover. They have seven total takeaways and one turnover in 2019 for a plus-six margin.

·         After scoring a touchdown following their takeaway against the Bills, the Titans now have 31 total points off turnovers this season, including four touchdowns and one field goal.

·         With only one turnover through five games, the Titans only the sixth team since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger to have only one turnover through the first five games of a season. The last team to accomplish the feat was the 2017 Kansas City Chiefs. The other teams were the 2016 Minnesota Vikings, the 2010 New York Jets, the 2008 Washington Redskins and the 1998 Cincinnati Bengals.

·         A week after getting three fourth-down stops at Atlanta, the Titans defense stopped the Bills on fourth-and-two from the Tennessee 31-yard line in the first quarter. Josh Allen was tackled for only a one-yard gain on the play.

·         The Titans allowed the Bills to convert only four of their 13 chances on third down (30.8 percent). Through five games, the defense has allowed only 19 conversions on 62 third-down attempts (30.6 percent).

·         The Titans defense produced four sacks against the Bills, registering the unit's third game of 2019 with at least four sacks and its fourth game with at least three sacks.

The only game of his career with a better qualifying net average was a 50.2-yard net average at Miami on Oct. 8, 2017.

·         His net average also qualified as the fourth-highest single-game net average in franchise history.

·         With his 159th career game with the Titans, tied Mike Munchak (159) for seventh place on the team's all-time career games played list.
