Delanie Walker Adds Cycling to Offseason Work

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No, Delanie Walker hasn't been training for the Tour de France.

What the Titans tight end has discovered this offseason, however, is a way to get into better shape without putting extra wear and tear on his body.

"I have been doing something new this year -- I have been cycling,'' Walker said. "I have found cycling is giving me great conditioning. It doesn't hurt my knees and my ankles. It kind of keeps my body fresh and it is giving me that conditioning I need. It's been great."

Walker, who signed a contract extension with the Titans earlier this month, is coming off the best season of his 10-year NFL career.

In 2015, Walker led the Titans and all NFL tight ends in receptions. He had 94 catches for 1,088 receiving yards and six touchdowns last season. He was named to the Pro Bowl.

Walker is currently taking part on the team's offseason program, where he's getting plenty of conditioning work under the supervision of Titans strength and conditioning coach Steve Watterson. The Titans began organized team activities last week, and team will be back on the field this week.

But Walker has supplemented his conditioning plan this offseason with work on a stationary bike.

Walker has taken classes at Krank Cycle Studio in Nashville, and he's been to SoulCycle when he's been in Los Angeles.

"I am out there just cranking it out,'' Walker said. "It saves my legs and my knees. I try to keep all the pressure off of my knees and ankles when I come to camp."

Walker said it's working, but said his offseason regiment during previous NFL offseasons regularly put him in a good position to be successful.

He feels great heading into Year 11, he said.

"Me being a pro and the type of person I am, I'm always going to come into the offseason program in the best shape I could possibly be in,'' Walker said. "I know guys on the team look up to me, and I don't want to let my teammates down, and I don't want to let my coaches down. So I feel like I am in great shape.

"People say, 'Man, you're 31 going on 32.' Well, I don't feel like it. I feel like I am 25 and I feel like I can play with the best of them at the highest level and I have been doing that in OTAs and I am going to keep doing it. What I am doing, it is working. I am just going to keep working."
