NASHVILLE – Dre'Mont Jones isn't messing around.
Heading into his seventh NFL season, the big edge rusher is motivated for a lot of reasons in Tennessee, and ready to get after it on the football field.
With others around him, the 6-foot-3, 281-pounder Jones wants to help reshape the look of the Titans defense.
"You do that by being physical as F," Jones said. "Every day, bringing it, striking, taking off, getting to a guy's chest. Let him know who wants to win. That's what I plan to do every day."
And, make no mistake, the 28-year-old Jones feels like he has plenty left in the tank.
"I am not old, I am 28," Jones said with a half smile. "It's not like I am 32, heck, 32 isn't old. I'm not 36 or 37.
"But I definitely want to prove myself, and I want to remind other teams who didn't want me any more that I am still a hell of a player."
In his first six seasons, Jones has played in 90 games, including 52 starts, with the Broncos and Seahawks since entering the NFL in 2019. He's been credited with 210 tackles, 30.5 sacks, 40 stops for a loss, three forced fumbles, and an interception in his career.
The Seahawks waived Jones earlier this offseason to create cap space, and the Titans snatched him up just a few days after parting ways with edge rusher Harold Landry.
Jones had 8 ½ sacks in two seasons in Seattle, who signed him to a three-year, $51.5 million deal in 2023 after he spent his first four NFL seasons in Denver.
Jones said he's a different player, and person, compared to the one who entered the NFL in 2019.
"I have a woman on my side that I love deeply, and I have two beautiful children that I think about with my lady," he said. "I am a totally different man."
And, Jones makes it clear he has no hard feelings about the way things transpired in Seattle.
He's also very clear about what he wants to be about in Tennessee, whether he has his hand in the dirt, is standing up, or dropping in coverage.
"I am seven years in now," he said. "I need to be a tone-setter, I need to be a leader. It's what I want to do, and it's what I want to be – I want to be that guy. I am ready to embrace it.
"I want to be known as a guy who just do it all, and I want to show I can do anything for this team. I appreciate the Titans for giving this opportunity to make plays in the league, and showcase myself. We are coming out here to get hands on people, and get nasty."
