T.J. Sheffield

PRO: The Titans signed TJ Sheffield as a rookie free agent following the team's rookie minicamp where he participated on a tryout basis. He played in 59 games over six college seasons (2019-24) and totaled 172 receptions for 1,714 yards and 14 touchdowns. In 2024, his 34 punt returns during his final season at the University of Connecticut were the most of any player in the FBS. He began his career at Purdue where he played his first five seasons (2019-23).

TITANS TIDBITS:
• Sheffield grew up in Thompson's Station, Tennessee, about 30 miles south of Nashville. He attended Indepenence High School where he excelled as an athlete and was a finalist for the Titans' Mr. Football Award as a senior.
• As a young athlete, Sheffield participated in the Junior Olympics from elementary school until he was a junior in high school. He once medaled in the Olympics' pentahlon, comprising of the long jump, shot put, high jump, 800-meter and 100-meter runs.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS:
• The Thompson's Station, Tenn., native was signed by the Titans as a rookie free agent on May 12, 2025.

COLLEGE:
• Appeared in 59 games over six seasons (2019-24) at Connecticut (2024) and Purdue (2019-23). His receiving totals include 172 receptions for 1,714 yards and 14 touchdowns. As a returner, returned 29 kickoffs for 505 yards and 66 punts for 502 yards.
• As a graduate (2024), recorded 54 receptions for 505 yards and three touchdowns at Connecticut. Led the FBS with 34 punt returns for 241 yards.
• As a senior (2023), played 11 games and recorded 32 receptions for 381 yards and two touchdowns, averaging a career-best 11.9 yards per reception. Returned 15 punts for 127 yards.
• As a redshirt junior (2022), played in all 14 games with 12 starts and ranked third on the team with 840 yards on 46 receptions with four touchdowns. Added a punt return for 21 yards.
• As a redshirt sophomore (2021), appeared in 12 games with three starts and made 36 receptions for 325 yards with five touchdowns. Also returned 14 punts for 105 yards and seven kickoffs for 75 yards, leading the team in return yardage.
• As a redshirt freshman (2020), appeared in all six games and recorded two catches for 11 yards. Also returned 19 kickoff returns for 397 yards. Earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.
• As a freshman (2019), redshirted after playing in three games as a reserve. Recorded two receptions for 12 yards.
• Graduated from Purdue with a bachelor's degree in sales in 2023.

PERSONAL:
• Attended Independence (Tenn.) High School and racked up 1,550 yards and 15 touchdowns on 75 receptions as a senior in 2018. Also carried the ball 26 times for 130 yards and four scores as a senior to help Independence advance to the second round of the Division I 6A state playoffs.
• Was rated a four-star receiver by ESPN and a three-star by 247Sports and Rivals. Was a finalist for the Titans' Mr. Football Award as a senior.
• Was a dual-sport athlete, also participating in track and field.
• Son of James and Clorissa Johnson.
• Has two brothers, Nathan and Carter, and two sisters, Jessica and Hannah.
