NASHVILLE, Tenn. --The Tennessee Titans and Jason McCourty have agreed to terms on a multi-year contract extension that will keep the veteran cornerback with the club through the 2017 season.
McCourty, a sixth-round pick by the Titans in 2009, has emerged into one of Tennessee's defensive leaders. In 42 career games (24 starts), the athletic and community-minded McCourty has totaled 182 tackles (141 solo), four interceptions, one sack, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 16 special teams tackles, providing a stabilizing force in the secondary.Â
In 2011, McCourty set a career high and ranked second on the squad with 107 tackles. He also led the club with 13 passes defensed and tied for the team lead with two interceptions.
McCourty scored his first career touchdown last season against the Colts when he recovered a Pat McAfee punt that was blocked by Patrick Bailey in the end zone Oct. 20 at LP Field.
In 2010, McCourty appeared in 12 games with six starts at cornerback and tied for third on the squad with two interceptions. He also finished third on the team with 13 passes defensed. McCourty snared his first career NFL interception on a tipped pass from Eli Manning in the end zone in a game against the Giants in New York on Sept, 26, 2010.Â
As a rookie in 2009, McCourty was thrust into the starting lineup for three consecutive games (at Jacksonville, vs. Indianapolis, at New England) after Tennessee's secondary suffered multiple injuries early on. He finished third on the team with 12 special teams tackles that season.

McCourty played his last three seasons at Rutgers with his identical twin brother, Devin, who starts at cornerback for the New England Patriots. The duo held down the starting cornerback spots for Scarlet Knights together for two years.Â
Devin, who redshirted his first season at Rutgers, was a first-round draft pick by New England in 2010. The duo will be reunited when the Titans square off against the Patriots in the regular season opener for both teams Sunday, Sept. 9 at LP Field.
