NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Titans linebacker Wesley Woodyard has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 10.
Woodyard, an 11-year veteran, turned in a heck of a performance in the team's 34-10 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Woodyard racked up 12 tackles, and he also had 1.5 sacks of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Woodyard was also credited with five quarterback pressures, and a tackle for a loss.
The Titans made life miserable for Brady in Sunday's win, and that was the plan, Woodyard said after the game.
"We got pressure early on him," Woodyard said. "And the thing with Brady is if you get pressure early on him, it can mess with the o-line's head. He is going to be yapping. … We just wanted to keep him unhappy.
"Any time you get hit at quarterback, you don't like that pressure. We stuck to the game plan and attacked the middle of the pocket. We couldn't let him get comfortable back there and pick us apart … and he didn't."
On the season, Woodyard is tied for the team lead with 62 tackles, and he's also tied for second with 3.5 sacks.
Per the NFL, Woodyard is the first Titans linebacker to win Defensive POTW since 2011 (Colin McCarthy).
