NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Titans and Panthers will get to know each other well in August.
The two teams have agreed to hold joint practices together at Saint Thomas Sports Park leading up to their game at Nissan Stadium on August 19.
The practice sessions:
• Wednesday, August 16.
• Thursday, August 17.
The practices will be free and open to the public, and further information about the practices will be announced at a later date. The practice sessions are expected to be in the morning each day.
The teams are scheduled to play at 2 p.m. on August 19 at Nissan Stadium.
"We are excited to be able to get this done after a number of discussions with Coach (Ron) Rivera," said Titans Head Coach Mike Mularkey. "These practices certainly will benefit both teams with quality snaps in training camp being so valuable. Facing another team in practice helps you evaluate players in a different environment and improve as a team. It will be a two days of physical play between two competitive teams. I am really looking forward to it."
Rivera told Panthers.com it should be a "good opportunity."
"Me and (Titans head coach Mike Mularkey) – we both have the same kind of philosophy in terms of what we're looking for," Rivera said. "We're there to get as much constructive work as we can. It's a chance for the guys to change who they're competing against; it can get a little stale in training camp. Also we can control the tempo, and the quarterbacks can get different looks and see different things. It's a great opportunity for learning and teaching as we go forward."
The Titans hosted a number of teams through the years for practices during training camp, including the Colts, Dolphins, Falcons and Rams. The team also traveled to Georgia to practice with the Falcons in Dalton and at their practice facility and to Illinois to face the Rams.
The Titans will begin training camp in late July.
