Three Quick Hits from Thursday's Minicamp

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Titans just wrapped up their final day of this week's minicamp at Saint Thomas Sports Park.

Here's a look at three quick hits after today's practice…

Competition

The Titans ended minicamp with a Punt, Pass and Kick competition between coaches and players.

Players would get the day off and have practice called off with a win. Take the L, and they'd practice.

Thanks to a 27-yard field goal by 6-foot-8, 321-pound offensive lineman Dennis Kelly, which followed a 70-yard punt by tight end Jace Amaro, the players won. And coaches now have to work on Friday.

Let's just say the players were pretty excited about it. Coaches actually first won what was called a "dry run," but head coach Mike Mularkey gave the players another chance.

"Did you see them at the end?," Mularkey said. "They looked pretty excited about not having to practice. Body language says a lot. Coaches did not look very happy."

Kelly said he kicked in high school. After defensive line coach Nick Eason misfired on his field goal attempt, Kelly put it through the uprights following a snap from tight end Phillip Supernaw, and cornerback Kalan Reed's hold.

"I wouldn't say worried,'' Kelly said with a smile when asked if kicker Ryan Succop should be concerned about losing his job. "But (my kick), it's there, it's on tape.

"The whole group did great. Jace hit a bomb, and I just had to seal it off."

Offseason Injury Update

Mularkey said the plan is for linebacker Kevin Dodd (foot), receiver Tajae Sharpe (foot), and defensive linemen Karl Klug (Achilles) and Sylvester Williams (ankle) to stick around town and rehab injuries.

Mularkey said Dodd is on a good track, and could be cleared to leave in several weeks.

He's running full-speed.

"It's highly likely (he'll be ready for camp), unless he drops a weight on it or something," Mularkey said. "He should not be on my injury report list (at the start of camp). … He is running full-speed. I saw him this morning, he was out here at 6:30 running."

Quarterback Marcus Mariota "has a plan" and will do his rehab work while away from Nashville, Mularkey said.

Decker talk

Mularkey said he'll meet with general manager Jon Robinson to discuss the roster position by position, and see where help might be needed before camp.

When asked about free agent receiver Eric Decker, who visited with team officials on Wednesday, Mularkey said he'll be discussed further. Mularkey said the long stretch before the team takes the field again – first practice is set for July 29 – decreases the sense of urgency to get something done immediately if the Titans want to make the move.

"You are talking about the dead period," Mularkey said. "You can't talk to the veterans about football until they come back (for camp)."

Amaro, teammates with Decker with the Jets, said he chatted with his buddy on Wednesday.

"I didn't know he was coming in," Amaro said of Decker.  "I saw him in the morning and talked to him for a few minutes. He was my good buddy when we were on the same team. Obviously nobody really knows what his position or what's his take, so obviously that's something for the upstairs guys to take care of. But great player, and I wish the best for him. I am kind of just worried about the guys on the team right now."
