NASHVILLE – Mason Kinsey made the longest catch of his NFL career this past Sunday against the Saints on a beautiful catch.
The following day, the Titans receiver added a life highlight at the team's facility, when he was baptized.
"I'd been talking to our team chaplain for about six weeks," Kinsey said on Wednesday. "I grew up in church, and I've always been a Christian all my life. But I felt like that was the next step I could take to really solidify my relationship with Christ."
Kinsey's baptism took place in the warming tub at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park, with Titans Director of Team Development Chip Pugh, a leadership coach and minister, performing the ceremony.
When Kinsey emerged from the water after being dunked, his family, teammates and coaches were on hand to cheer him on.
"I talked to Chip about it, and in the Bible, some people were getting baptized in rivers and in random body of waters," Kinsey said. "We discussed that a little bit and we were like: What better place than to do it right here, where I spend the majority of my time?"
Kinsey said his family had planned to leave town on Monday, but he surprised them with his idea before they left. They joined him, along with his fiancé.
Kinsey, who initially joined the franchise as an undrafted free agent in 2021, caught a 34-yard pass from quarterback Cam Ward in Sunday's game.
Kinsey credited teammates James Proche II, Van Jefferson, Julius Chestnut and Chimere Dike for helping guide him on a regular basis, including spiritually.
It made the baptism even more special, he said.
"It was awesome," Kinsey said. "I had some of my teammates and coaches there, and my family was also there … so they got to watch it all go down.
"I thought it was important for the people who have helped me be a part of it."
