On his biggest frustration
"We didn't score touchdowns. That's really the biggest frustration. Shooting ourselves in the foot. Just staying in long situations which we can't stay with. At the end of the day, the team has got to get better. It's only game one, we've got a long road ahead of us. We've got sixteen more to try and get a win."
On the biggest thing they learned as an offense
"[We've] just got to be better situationally. When we're on the edge of field goal range, not taking a bad sack. Just getting the ball out or having to get out of the pocket and throw it away. So just being better situationally."
On what they could have done to get the ball out quicker
"I would say whether it's just checking something just to get the ball out. [I have to] give the chances to my receivers to make a play. It also comes down to everybody on offense doing their job, every one of the eleven. We just have to continue to grow together. It's the first game, we're not really tripping too much on it. We've got stuff to clean up, including myself, so we're ready for next week.
On taking the two sacks at the end of the fourth quarter and what he was thinking during the second one
"As soon as you take the first one, it goes into your mind that you can't take the second one. But at the end of the day, you're going through the play call. I can't control a lot of stuff, but I can control the protections and getting the ball to my receivers. So, I just tried doing my job, leading this offense to scoring touchdowns. We're a young group; we've got to keep playing. We can't have no excuses. At the end of the day, we took a loss today, so we've got to watch the film and learn from it and try and win next week."
On what he thinks they can improve on
"We didn't score a touchdown today so, I mean, all the ways up. So, try to score a touchdown next week. Try to score a couple of them next week. So, we just got to keep on grinding. Keep leaning on each other, continue to just get in and out of the huddle. I think as the game went on, we got better at it, getting out of the huddle. Not letting the crowd be a factor. It's our first game together. We get a lot more opportunities to practice this week, try to go beat the [Los Angeles] Rams."
On the team's discipline
"I think we're very disciplined. It could be some calls that are questionable. But at the end of the day, we control our destiny. We didn't do that to the standard that we want to. So, from my job to the offensive line, to the running back, to the receivers, we all got to lock in on the little things. That's something that we're going to preach this week going into the Rams game.
On how he felt
"I felt good, honestly. I felt alive again, just finally being alive, knowing that it's not a preseason game, it's a real football game. The rush that you get is unbelievable. It's something that you wouldn't want to trade for the world. I'm blessed to be in this position. I'm blessed to have guys around who believe in me and we're just really trying to get better. We've just got to take one week at a time. It felt good to get out there."
On not capitalizing on turnovers
"We want to be one of the best ones out there, but at the end of the day, we get a defense that gets three or four turnovers for you, and we can't capitalize: that's on us. We just continue to learn, continue to grow together, continue to connect each and every day. I'm just ready to watch film, get to work next week and try to go get a win."
On the positives
"We can be explosive. We've just got to connect on the play. From myself to the receiver group, we can be explosive and also we're able to run the football. I think that is a plus side of our game that we can run the football if we really want to. Coach [Brian] Callahan is going to always put the ball in my hands. He's going to do his best for the offense. I just like to continue to grow with those guys."
On the play calls
"I've got a lot of freedom. He's (head coach Brian Callahan) given me that freedom since they drafted me. [There is] a lot of stuff I don't have to change because he calls good plays. It's really just me, what I think in the moment, if it's a coverage I like. [If] I know what I want to get to, I'm going to do it. Me and the receivers have got to continue watching film. Them, seeing what I see on the field, and then me listening to them, vice versa. I'm excited for the next game. I'm excited to go try to get a win."
On his passing timing
"They're used to it. The receivers are used to it, the tight ends are used to it, we've just got to connect. We didn't do that enough today so we're going to keep on working with each other. When practice comes next week, try to make plays next week."
On WR Calvin Ridley
"He's a vet. He knows what to do. I just continue to tell him, keep playing the game. I didn't have a great game, I've got to tell myself, keep playing the game along with the o-line and the running backs. We had the ball down eight with a minute to go. We were damn near midfield. We didn't capitalize. [The} defense, they gave us the opportunity to win a game. We didn't get the job done. Everybody on the offense, we all accountable for our actions. We'll just watch the film and get better off of each other and win.
