On the Roster: Seventh Rounders

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Whether it's the surprise of a sleeper, the hidden power of an underdog, the luck of the number seven or a combination of those factors and much more, no round in the NFL Draft has provided the Titans with as many players as the seventh and final round.

Strong special teams performances helped Marc Mariani, a seventh-rounder in 2010, earn a roster spot. Click here to see a slideshow of the 10 seventh-round selections on the roster.

Six of the 10 seventh-round picks on Tennessee's roster (as of April 18) have been drafted by the Titans: C/G Eugene Amano in 2004, T Mike Otto in 2007, WR/KR Marc Mariani in 2010, DB Tommie Campbell and DT Zach Clayton in 2011 and DE Scott Solomon in 2012.

Amano has made 68 starts in 124 games at guard and center. He worked his way up the depth chart and started 31 of 32 games at left guard for the Titans in 2008-09 and moved to center the next season where he started all 29 games he played from 2010-11. Amano is rehabbing from a torn triceps injury he suffered during training camp last August that cost him all of the 2012 season.

Otto has appeared in 48 games but has had few opportunities to start because of the durability of Michael Roos and David Stewart, who were each selected in 2005.

Keen abilities on special teams helped Mariani and Campbell make the team in consecutive seasons. Mariani made the Pro Bowl as a return specialist in his rookie season after setting the franchise record for punt and kick return yards in a season (1,859). He has returned two punts and one kickoff for touchdowns. Mariani has been rehabbing a broken leg he suffered last year in the preseason that cost him all of 2012. Campbell has scored two touchdowns on special teams — one after a reverse during a kickoff return in 2011, and one after catching a lateral during a punt return in 2012.

The other four seventh-round picks have come to the Titans through free agency in the past two seasons: DE Keyunta Dawson in 2012, and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, LB Moise Fokou and WR Kevin Walter this offseason.

Indianapolis drafted Dawson in 2007, St. Louis tabbed Fitzpatrick in 2005, Philadelphia selected Fokou in 2009 and the New York Giants chose Walter, who never played for them, in 2003. The Titans have nine selections in this year's draft, including the 216th and 248th overall picks in the seventh round. **Click here to visit Titans Draft Central**.
