Munchak: "No Surprises" from Jake Locker's Surgery

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Titans coach Mike Munchak said Thursday that he hadn't received the "full layout" of Jake Locker's foot surgery Wednesday, but said there were "no surprises" that popped up during the operation.

"I know he's happy it's behind him. Now the rehab will begin, which is going to be a long process," Munchak said. "I haven't had a chance to talk to Dr. (Burton) Elrod and our doctors of exactly what the timetable is going to be. But, I think everything went well. Like I said, no surprises, which is a big thing. We know he'll be ready for training camp and OTAs and things. It's just a matter of exactly how the whole thing will work."

Locker suffered a Lisfranc injury in his right foot Nov. 10 against Jacksonville and underwent the operation in Charlotte, N.C., two days after hosting his first Titans & T-Bones Dinner that raised more than $175,000 for his recently launched Pass It On Foundation.

The third-year pro and second-year starter suffered hip and knee sprains Sept. 29, which caused him to miss the next two starts. He worked his way back into the lineup with help from a knee brace Oct. 20 against San Francisco.

A shoulder injury cost Locker five starts and parts of two other games in 2012, but he recovered from surgery in January to improve his completion percentage, touchdown-to-interception ratio and passer rating this season.

Tennessee (4-6) visits Oakland (4-6) at 3:05 p.m. CT Sunday. Ryan Fitzpatrick is preparing for his fourth start as a Titan, and Rusty Smith will back up Fitzpatrick. It's likely that newly signed QB John Skelton will be inactive.

Munchak said it's likely that Locker won't be able to do much physically for a while but will probably return to Saint Thomas Sports Park next week to participate in meetings.

"He's a guy that just wants to be part of it; we want him part of it," Munchak said. "I don't know exactly when he's coming back to town or anything. I'm assuming after this trip we'll see him, but I haven't really talked to him. But, he'll be back."
