Titans RB Derrick Henry Thanks Teammates, Fans After Historic Season

KANSAS CITY – Titans running back Derrick Henry's historic season ended with tears following a loss in the AFC Championship Game.

After the team's 35-24 loss to the Chiefs, Henry talked about how much the year – and his teammates – meant to him.

"I definitely shed a couple of tears, because I love my teammates and I love the chemistry that we've had throughout the whole season," Henry said after the game. "I just felt like I could have done more for this team. I love this team, I loved playing football and competing.

"I am definitely going to miss this team. And as I look back, I know I had a lot of good teammates, a lot of good moments I can look back on."

Henry, who ran for 69 yards on 19 carries against the Chiefs, also thanked the team's fans.

"I definitely want to say thank you to the fans and the city of Nashville for the relentless support throughout the whole season, throughout the playoffs, throughout the season when things weren't as good," Henry said. "For the fans to stick with us and to support us in road games throughout the playoff run, making it special to us.

"There's a lot of things we can build off if. I just want to say we appreciate them."

Henry rushed for a postseason franchise-record 195 yards in the Titans' Divisional Playoff win at Baltimore. After rushing for 182 yards and a touchdown on Wild Card Weekend against New England, Henry became the first player with at least 180 rushing yards in consecutive postseason games in NFL history.

Henry led the NFL with 1,540 rushing yards in the regular season in 2019.

"I feel like our backs were against the wall all season, and we kept believing in each other," Henry said. "We kept fighting … and we kept believing in each other. We just came up short against a good team. I just wish the outcome could have been different.

"I think there's a lot of good things we can build off of and I feel like this was a great step in the right direction."
