On the loss…
Cam Ward: "It's real disappointing. Just as an offense – especially myself having turnovers – you're not going to have a chance to win the game. Especially two of them, they were real bad turnovers that situationally backed us up, and then before the half. That's something that I can't let happen. I know I can't let it happen, and we got to continue to keep going."
On communication with teammates…
Ward: "I think that is the biggest thing. We don't really have communication issues from player to player. That's just something we got to continue to build off. We can't keep starting games off slow, I can't keep starting off slow. We have got to start fast and maintain that throughout the game."
On if there have been communication issues with the coaching staff…
Ward: "Nah, not really. We weren't in any crazy situation because we were losing. It's something that, we got to maintain a lead, we got to get a lead. We have got to stop turning the ball over for myself – just got to win games."
On the failure to carry over momentum from last week's win…
Ward: "I think it is all of us not going in at every play. Whether it's myself on one play – there's a turnover – or we have a missed route or missed block on somewhere with a receiver or the O-Line. Just always one person not doing their job on a specific play. That's something that we emphasize. At the end of the day, like there's no excuses out there for us. We got to be better. I have to be better. Every time you score 10 points you're not winning the football game. So offensively, we got to help the defense. They've done their part the whole season, we just got to start doing
On if the team came out flat…
Ward: "We came out flat is the way we played today. We can't let that carry over. We got a good team coming in next week at home. We got to try to get a win."
On how to speed up the offense…
Ward: "I would say play faster. Whether it is tempo, or whether we are huddling. Just getting to the line, get set, and snapping the ball. I think that will help us out a lot. I also think we need to continue to stay above the chains. At some points today, we weren't above the chains, and we paid the price for it – especially against a defense like that who is very good. We got to play team football, which we have been, but we got to have it click every play. It can't just be one half, or one drive, or one quarter, we just got to click from the very start."
On his comfort level and improvement…
Ward: "I'm real comfortable out there from seeing coverage to no protection. I'm real comfortable with it. It's just more of us doing our 'One eleven.' Myself, not turning the ball over, helping out the defense. We haven't done that the whole season. So, if we keep on playing this way offensively, it's not going to be good for us, so we just got to turn around." Las Vegas Raiders Transcript
On if the game has slowed down for him now compared to the beginning of the season…
Ward: "I think I see it just the same every play, in practice, out of practice, it's slowed down for me. It's just now, me connecting with receivers, staying above the chains and doing our job."
On why the quick outlet patterns weren't working today…
Ward: "I just think they weren't working because of one drop, or one person not doing their job, especially on the one in the fourth quarter to Chig [Okonkwo], I threw it outside him. He had to make a one-handed catch for us. If I throw an accurate ball, it might be a touchdown. So, from myself to receiver position, it's just one of us have to do our job every play. I think that's why we put ourselves in a hole, just whether it's behind the chains, whether we're actually moving ball for that drive, if one person doesn't do their job, it ends up showing in the drive."
On if there needs to be changes on offense…
Ward: "I'm open to everything, and we're not an efficient offense, so we have to try new things. To stay the course, we got to make the course work. So, it's really just both players and coaching staff just continue to either just call a play, we execute the play, we have to do our job as a whole because at the end of the day, the coaches only do so much. It's the players that are playing. We just got to do our job."
On what led to those fumbles and what he can do to correct that…
Ward: "Just bad ball security. Fumbles from just seeing them, recognizing them, then I just got to protect the football with two hands on it and not put our defense in that situation."
On his impressions of Maxx Crosby…
Ward: "He's real explosive, just off the ball every play. He's going in run game and pass game. We had a plan for him, but at the end of the day, he's one of the best defensive ends in the world. So, he had himself a good game. But at the end of the day, a lot of stuff we could have controlled. And we know, you play good guys, they end up getting in the backfield a couple times like him. But I think at the end of the day, we're just not doing anything on offense. I'm not doing anything on offense. So, we have to just be consistent. Right now, we're not."
On his confidence level….
Ward: "My preparation and what I've been through to get to this point. Every week, I attack the same whether we win a game or lose a game. I know what I need to watch, I know how much film I have to watch, and it's just more about not really staying the course, but trying to change the outcome every week. Right now, we're not winning a lot of football games, and I think that's the motivating part of me, because as my job, I can help change that a lot of ways, the ball hits my hand every down. So, I think just over the course of time, week in and week out, we'll continue to get better."
