NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Derrick Morgan isn't a stat watcher, but the guy can't lie – he likes sacks.
It's his job after all.
And right now, the Titans linebacker is on a roll, racking up sacks at an impressive pace.
Morgan has 4.5 sacks in just four games. He trails only Ziggy Ansah (Lions) and Carlos Dunlap (Bengals), who have five sacks each. Dating back to last season, Morgan has 7.5 sacks in the last seven games.
"I try not to pay too much attention to it, because when you play too close attention to sacks too much...You just don't want to put too much energy into that,'' Morgan said. "I approach every week the same and try not to get too caught up in that.
"… At the end of the day you hope to get sacks. Obviously, it is a good feeling. But we need to get these wins (most)."
After playing his first four NFL seasons as a defensive end in a 4-3 defensive scheme, Morgan has settled in nicely in the team's 3-4 scheme as an outside linebacker.
Morgan led the team with 6.5 sacks last season.
"I definitely think my comfort zone in the system is going up,'' Morgan said. "I understand my role a lot better and have a little bit more freedom to do what I want to do and with the additions we have on the defense is benefitting everybody, not just me."
Titans senior assistant Dick LeBeau said he's been impressed with Morgan, a first round draft pick by the Titans in 2010.
Morgan signed a contract extension with the team last offseason. He has 27.5 sacks in the past six seasons.
"He's a good player,'' LeBeau said of Morgan. "I said that the day I came to work down here. He only knows one way to play – he goes every snap, and he is getting a reward for it."
