Biography

PRO: The Titans signed Cody Barton during the 2025 offseason to upgrade the inside linebacker position and add to the veteran leadership on defense. The 6-foot-2-inch, 237-pounder played in 95 games with 43 starts and was selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. Prior to his arrival in Tennessee, the University of Utah product recorded 419 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, five interceptions, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in six pro seasons.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
• In Week 7 of 2024, at New Orleans on Thursday Night Football, Barton earned AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors after an eight-tackle performance that included a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Barton notched his first NFL score by returning a strip sack 52 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of a 33-10 primetime victory.
• While with the Commanders in 2020, Barton's 16 tackles on special teams ranked first in the NFC and second in the NFL.

TITANS TIDBITS:
• Barton comes from a family of University of Utah athletes. His mother, Mikki, played basketball and volleyball for the school and is a member of the Utes Hall of Fame. His father, Paul, was also a two-sport Utah athlete, playing football and baseball. Barton was college teammates with his older brother, Jackson, who played offensive line from 2015-18. His sister Dani played Utah volleyball as well. The youngest Barton, Lander, is currently playing linebacker at Utah.
• The Barton family also owns an 80-acre ranch in Duchesne, Utah, about 90 miles southeast of Park City where Cody and his siblings grew up. At the Barton ranch, the family tends cows, horses and other animals. Cody returns to the ranch in his time away from football and enjoys horseback riding, fishing and hunting in his native Utah.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS:
• The Cottonwood Heights, Utah, native was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round (88th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft.
• Signed by the Washington Commanders as an unrestricted free agent on March 13, 2023.
• Signed by the Denver Broncos as an unrestricted free agent on March 18, 2024.
• Signed by the Titans as an unrestricted free agent on March 13, 2025.

COLLEGE:
• Played four seasons at Utah (2015-18), where he was an honorable mention All-Pac 12 linebacker as a senior. Played in 50 games with 23 starts for the Utes, recording 234 tackles, 23.5 tackles for loss, nine sacks, 11 passes defensed, one interception, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries.
• As a senior (2018), started all 14 games at middle linebacker and served as a team captain. Led the team with 116 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, six pass breakups, four sacks, an interception and a forced fumble.
• As a junior (2017), played in all 13 games with four starts at linebacker. Recorded 45 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, three fumble recoveries and one pass defensed.
• As a sophomore (2016), played in 11 games with five starts at rover. Ranked second on the team with 66 tackles. Also racked up 6.5 tackles for loss, three passes breakups and a sack. Collected 20 tackles against Oregon (11/19), the most by a Ute since 1991.
• As a freshman (2015), played in 12 games as a freshman, primarily on special teams. Notched seven tackles in his first year.
• Graduated from Utah with a bachelor's degree in economics.

PERSONAL:
• Attended Brighton (Utah) High School where he played defensive back. Was a Salt Lake Tribue and Deseret News first-team all-state honoree as a senior. Rated a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and Scout.com.
• Racked up 72 tackles and three interceptions on defense and 27 receptions for 334 yards and two touchdowns at tight end as a senior.
• Son of Paul Barton and Mikki Kane-Barton.
• Has three siblings, brothers Jackson and Lander and sister Dani.
• Born Cody Likeke Barton on Nov. 13, 1996 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
