Shea Tierney is in his first season with the Titans, his 12th season in the NFL and his 16th total season in coaching. He joined the Titans after four seasons with the New York Giants.

During his time with the Giants (2022-25), Tierney coached the team's quarterbacks. Additionally, during his final two seasons in New York, he owned the title of offensive passing game coordinator. Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll was the head coach of the Giants during Tierney's time there.

Eight different players started at quarterback during Tierney's time with the Giants, with Daniel Jones' 32 starts topping the list. In 2025, rookie Jaxson Dart logged a team-high 12 starts at quarterback, in addition to three starts by Russell Wilson and two starts by Jameis Winston. Dart passed for 2,272 yards and 15 touchdowns with five interceptions in addition to scoring nine rushing touchdowns.

In 2024, the Giants started three different quarterbacks for the second consecutive year in Daniel Jones, Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock. In Week 17, Lock led the Giants to a win over the Colts and became just the fifth player in NFL history with at least 300 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown and a 155 passer rating in a single game. DeVito finished the 2024 season owning the second-most consecutive pass attempts (183) without an interception in the NFL, which was also the longest streak by a Giant since the 1970 merger.

In 2023, Tierney led a position group that cycled through three starting quarterbacks in Jones, Tyrod Taylor, and DeVito. DeVito, a rookie free agent, improved enough under Tierney's coaching to start six games, winning three. He led the Giants to victories at Washington and in home games against New England and Green Bay to become the first Giants rookie quarterback to win three consecutive starts since Phil Simms won four in a row in 1979. He was just the third undrafted rookie quarterback since the 1970 merger to win three starts in a season, joining Ed Rubbert, who won three strike-replacement games for Washington in 1987, and Pittsburgh's Devlin Hodges in 2019.

In 2022, Tierney's first year with the Giants, Jones had the best season of his career, setting a Giants' single-season completion percentage record of 67.2 and leading the team to its first postseason berth in six years and an NFC Wild Card victory in Minnesota. Jones threw for 3,205 yards and rushed for a Giants quarterback-record 708 yards to join Philadelphia's Jalen Hurts and Buffalo's Josh Allen as the only NFL quarterbacks with 3,000-plus passing yards and 500-plus rushing yards that season. Jones threw a career-low five interceptions; he led the NFL and set a franchise record by throwing an interception on just 1.1 percent of his passes (five interceptions in 472 attempts). He led the Giants from deficits of 10 or more points to victory three times in the season's first six games, tying him for the highest total by a quarterback in the first six games of a season since 2000.

Prior to joining the Giants, Tierney spent four years working with Daboll on the Buffalo Bills' staff, the first two as an offensive assistant and the last two as the assistant quarterbacks coach. In those two seasons, Allen was one of the NFL's most productive and successful quarterbacks. The Bills were 27-11 combined in the regular season and postseason, won two AFC East titles and advanced to the 2020 conference championship game. In those 38 games, Allen threw for 10,405 yards and 87 touchdowns. He finished second in the NFL Most Valuable Player voting in 2020.

Tierney joined the Bills in 2018 after spending the previous two seasons as an offensive analyst for the University of Alabama, which was 27-2 when he was on the staff. With the Crimson Tide, he worked closely with Billy Napier, the wide receivers coach in Tierney's first season. In his second season at Alabama, Tierney worked under Daboll, who was the offensive coordinator when the Crimson Tide won the 2017 national championship.

Tierney broke into coaching as an offensive graduate assistant at North Carolina State from 2011 to 2012. He then got his first NFL experience with the Philadelphia Eagles as a football analyst/coaching intern from 2013 to 2015.

Tierney is a graduate of Neshaminy High School in Langhorne, Pa., and N.C. State. He and his wife, the former Emily Seng of Macungie, Pa., have a daughter, Jordan, and a son, James.
