Dave Borgonzi arrived in Tennessee during the 2026 offseason with 15 years of NFL coaching experience and 20 total years of coaching experience.

He spent the 2025 campaign as the linebackers coach with the Dallas Cowboys, where he launched his NFL coaching career from 2011 to 2013. His stops also included the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2014-17), Indianapolis Colts (2018-21) and Chicago Bears (2022-24).

The 2025 Cowboys defense featured five different inside linebackers who started at least five games: Kenneth Murray Jr., fifth-round rookie Shemar James, Jack Sanborn, DeMarvion Overshown and Marist Liufau. Murray and James ranked first and second on the team with 81 and 80 tackles, respectively, with James' total finishing fifth among all rookie inside linebackers.

As the linebackers coach in Chicago, Borgonzi helped elevate a Bears defense that was one of the best in the league in 2023. Chicago's 86.4 rushing yards allowed per game and 1,468 total rushing yards allowed on the season were both the fewest in the NFL. The Bears became just the seventh NFL team since 1970, and third since 2000, to go from last or second to last in rush defense to the top five the following season. Chicago allowed only one 100-yard rusher during the entire 2023 campaign (Week 18 - Aaron Jones, 111).

While in Chicago, Borgonzi was instrumental in the development of T.J. Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds. In 2023, Edwards finished seventh in the NFL with 153 tackles, which was third on the Bears single-season tackle list (since 1991).

Before Chicago, Borgonzi spent four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. While in Indianapolis, the Colts were the only NFL defensive unit to be ranked in the top 10 in scoring defense, run defense and takeaways in each of the 2020 and 2021 seasons. The Colts also finished in the top 10 in the league in run defense and takeaways in all four of Borgonzi's seasons as linebackers coach. Borgonzi helped mentor four-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowl linebacker Shaquille Leonard into one of the most productive players at his position.

Prior to his four-year stint with Indianapolis, Borgonzi served as defensive quality control/assistant linebackers coach at Tampa Bay for four seasons (2014-17). In 2016, the Buccaneers defense forced 29 takeaways, the third-highest mark in the league.

Borgonzi embarked on his NFL coaching career with the Cowboys as a coaching assistant, starting out on the defensive side of the ball, specifically with the secondary (2011-12). In 2013, he became an offensive assistant, spending most of his time with the offensive line.

Before the NFL, Borgonzi began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Syracuse University, working with the secondary and defensive line, all while earning his master's degree in education. He then moved on to Harvard, where he served as the defensive backs coach from 2008 to 2010.

A native of Everett, Mass., Borgonzi graduated from Amherst College with a degree in law, jurisprudence and social thought. He was a former inside linebacker at Amherst, starting three seasons. He was named team captain during his senior year.

He and his wife, Alyssa, have a daughter, Gianna, and a son, James. His brother, Mike Borgonzi, serves as the Titans general manager.
