Weekend Mailbag: Jim Wyatt Answers Questions From Titans Fans

Cammail2

NASHVILLE – NFL free agency starts in the coming days, which is almost hard to believe.

Soon, we'll be zeroing in on the NFL Draft.

Yes, the offseason is flying by.

There's no time to waste, so let's dive right in.

Randy Logan from Wheaton, Illinois
Question: Hey Jim - I have read a lot of questions about Will Levis in this mailbag. Almost every answer you give about Levis is he should be traded. I believe Levis could be a better QB fit than Ward for the Titans. I thought Malik Willis was too. When are the Titans going to let these QBs fairly compete for the starting job?! Look at what the 49ers had and the last pick in the draft was the gem in Purdy. Thoughts?!

Jim: Hey Randy. My thoughts about Levis have nothing to do with his ability, or his potential. I just know that Cam Ward is the future at the quarterback position in Tennessee. And, I could see a scenario where the team pairs a veteran with him instead of Levis, especially if the team gets a trade offer it can't refuse. But that's just me, without discussing this with Mike Borgonzi or Robert Saleh or any of the decision makers, on or off the record. I actually believe Levis has the potential to be a good NFL quarterback one day. What if he's traded, and he blossoms elsewhere, kind of like Malik Willis has done? Personally, that thought alone would concern me. But the only folks asking me have to click a link to ask a question. We'll just have to wait and see how things play out.

Teado Trevor Hepburn from San Diego, California
Question: Hi Jim, my question is regarding the future playing surface (field) and the current one at Nissan Stadium. Is it going to remain as the same turf or are there potential upgrades available? I have seen that the playing surface can be an issue that may players have opinions on! Thanks!

Jim: Hello Teado. I saw that survey grade on the playing surface, and I know others did, too. I don't think it's been decided what exactly will be used at new Nissan Stadium, but I feel safe in saying folks will be looking for the best synthetic turf product available.

Will Turner from Lebanon, Tennessee
Question: It seemed like the Titan mindset at the beginning of last season was: This is a rebuilding year so we're going to focus on that, and maybe we'll win some games--who knows?
I, like many fans, was screaming at the TV for a more aggressive, risk-taking mindset offensively.
What is the mindset going into the new season?
I've been a Titans fan since they moved here and became the Titans, and I'd love to see the mindset they had back then, in the McNair/George years. I haven't seen that swagger in a while.

Jim: Hey Will. Looking back, last year was always going to be a rebuilding year in my mind, although I thought the team might win five or six games, not three. I don't think it was being conservative on purpose, I just think the team lacked talent. I'm expecting better things in 2026, and moving forward. What that means from a win-loss perspective, well, a lot is going to hinge on how this whole roister building thing goes in free agency and the draft.

Raymond Farrar from St. Louis, Missouri
Question: Hey Jim! I'm going to spare you the usual questions that you get asked this year:
1. Who are the Titans going to draft
and
2. Who are the Titans going after in free agency
Instead, I'll ask: Do the Titans do tours of Nissan Stadium in the offseason? Old stadium, of course. Thanks, in advance.

Jim: Hey Raymond! Hope all is well. Heck, I was going to tell you exactly who the team is going to draft , and sign in free agency. But since you don't want to know the answers to those questions..
Yes, Nissan Stadium tours are offered, but you're running out of times. Only one year left in this place, hard to believe.

Roberto Salazar from Miami, Florida
Question: Hi Jim: Love your mailbag. Ok, let's get right into your favorite topic: Mike Vrabel. Joking!!!!!!! I became a Titans fan because of Cam Ward and truly believe great things are ahead. At first, being a homer, I thought Reuben Bain should be the Titans clear pick at 4. But like you and many others, I now feel like the lure of Love at 4 may be too much to pass up. Could that combo be McNair/Eddie George 2.0? Hard not to see the comparison and the delicious universal circularity there. Cam already looks a bit like McNair out on the field. While I know free agency may help decide where the Titans go at 4, my question is how do front office personnel and the coach ultimately make those kind of decisions where you have two possible generational talents to choose from, and who will win if there is disagreement between Saleh and Borgonzi? Now, back to Vrabel . . .

Jim: I actually like Vrabel, and I've said in here before I think he's probably the best coach the franchise has ever had. I have just lost patience for those who refuse to move on, and for those who think he's already earned Belichick status. Move on, folks. … As for Love, I'm not fully endorsing him yet, but I haven't tried to hide the fact I really like him and think he's going to be a great pro. And, yes, I like the thought of a Cam Ward/Jeremiyah Love pairing for years to come. But I'm also intrigued by some other guys in this draft. … Make no mistake on this: Borgonzi has the final say on who the pick will be.

Michael Schultz from San Diego, California
Question: Been a TITANS FAN when bud moved to Tennessee. My question is not related to whom the new coach is, but the message it brings to the club and climate. Is his coaching method going to be a good fit, for the TITANS? He did do a fantastic job with the 49's D, does that translate to our org we will see.

Jim: Hey Michael. I think Robert Saleh's mindset, and approach, will create a good culture here in Tennessee. Yes, I think it will translate. But the team needs to start winning games.

Parker Groner from Saegertown, Pennsylvania
Question: What is are weakest spot on the Titans?

Jim: Right now, I think it's cornerback, but the team also needs help at edge rusher and receiver, among other positions. And while some positions have returning starters, players, that doesn't mean the team can't upgrade.

Doug Goldstein from Las Vegas, Nevada
Question: Hi Jim, not a question, just a rant as usual. As a long time Titan/NFL fan, this part of the year is excruciatingly painful. I hate hate hate mock draft season with a passion. I don't care what so-called experts think is gonna happen. They are no better than your local weather forecaster. Tell the audience it's gonna rain, and no consequences when it is sunny. Say someone is getting picked 3rd? I don't care, there's no desperate need for me to know what some schmuck feels. And lastly, my preseason enthusiasm is completely dead. After 25 years as a Titans fan, I no longer have the high hopes as I have had every single year just to get smacked in the back of the head. Titan up!

Jim: Brace yourself, Doug. You're going to see a lot of mock drafts in the coming weeks.

Eli Decko from Youngwood, Pennsylvania
Question: Man, a lot of knee jerk emails in the Tuesday mailbag. Lots of "oh at the combine" hogwash too. The Titans are a deficient football team at almost every position. Outside of Jeff and Peter Skoronski we have NOBODY in the trenches to legitimately rely on. No matter what the "philosophy" is going to be the fact remains the same, no team wins a super bowl with a trash offensive or defensive line, and no team has ever won a super bowl with both being as bad as our are. This regime needs to spend big NOW on the line. Period. If Linderbaum is not signed immediately by the Titans we have got to use our second round pick on the kid out of Iowa who started after he did. Period. It is a must. We need to release Revolving Door Moore and recoup some cap. He was atrocious last season. I suggest getting Bitonio from Free Agency for a 2 year deal. Him at guard will be an upgrade for sure. I still think we should keep Corey Levin and start him at guard as well and move Skoronski to Left Tackle. Albeit a quick fix, it would be a fix for now. Latham should take a year 3 leap if he is even 10% worthy of his draft position. With the first pick in the draft it has to be Love. Period. Think of how screwed the league would be if Mahomes gets him in KC? Think of the 1-2 punch he would be in NYG with Skateboo. We need him. Legit, you been around a long time Jim, and you know I have been too. You know who he reminds me of? Chris Johnson and Travis Henry in the same body. The agility and playmaking ability of CJ2K but that balance and rugged toughness of Travis Henry. With our history of being the franchise of Runningbacks, he could be our 3rd 2k back. Depending on Center (Linderbaum or his replacement at Iowa) is what makes second rd pick a situation. I like Tyler for sure. If we get him, why not get the DT from Miami at pick 2? Cuz really, Bain saw a lot of 1 on 1 situations cuz the DT's were legit. I also like the DT's from A&M, both very very good players with Simmons like motors. I do think we are ok at Linebacker. I wanna see Jonnu Smith back here or resign Chig. Helm will be good but he isn't the guy yet. Jauan Jennings could make a great addition to our receiving group as well. He is 6'3 has great game speed, like legit game speed. He can high point better than any WR in the AFC South. He catches just about everything too. I'm pretty sure he has like a 4% drop rate for his career. He had 9 touchdowns last season as well. I would also be interested in seeing if Brandon Ayuk gets released or traded. Cuz man he would be nice too. Allowing us to go younger on defense. Cuz these dollars and cents need to make sense before Cam gets extended, if that is what the future holds "holding my breath". Corner should be pretty easy to fix. Bring back Roger McCreary. He did nothing wrong to get traded. Get one of the Seattle Corners or Asante Samuel Jr. in free agency. Bring in Kevin Byard to run it back with Hooker, who better step up him game tbh. Release or trade Snead. Release or trade Ridley. Save some money. Get Taylor the FA corner from the Saints. The kid we drafted from UCLA last year could play DE too. If we produce pressure we can play better coverage schemes and actually be in games. Free Agency is what is gonna win us games this year. It will allow us to draft Love out of Notre Dame which we need to do. Jim, be a pal, for old times sake, pass this on to the front office. Thanks. #TitanUp

Jim: You're sounding more like yourself, Eli.

John Barrera from Concord, North Carolina
Question: I'd like to know since the Titans have hired Robert Saleh and OC Brian Daboll, what are the expectations going forward? Are the Titans going to acquire any unrestricted free agents in 2026? And what about the draft class in 2026 going forward?

Jim: Hey John. This team has money to spend, and nine draft picks. The expectation is to build a better roster, a more competitive team, and to win games. Exactly how long will that take? Time will tell.

Have a great weekend everyone!
