Perennial Pro Bowler Joe Thomas Likes Taylor Lewan's Game

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Taylor Lewan played in his first Pro Bowl last month, and the Titans left tackle picked up some valuable insight along the way.

Some of it came from Cleveland's veteran left tackle Joe Thomas, who's now been to 10 Pro Bowls.

"We talked,'' Thomas said of Lewan, who just wrapped up his third season with the Titans. "But I think he has it really figured out. You just try and give him a few pieces of technique advice here and there, but he is doing a great job. He just needs to keep playing well.

"Every season is a grind, but keep focusing on your job and do what you can to help your team win, and pretty soon you'll look around and he'll be at his 10th Pro Bowl. I think for sure he'll be back."

Lewan said the Pro Bowl was valuable because it provided him a chance to pick the brains of guys like Thomas and Bengals veteran Andrew Whitworth, the AFC's two offensive tackles. Whitworth, an 11-year veteran, made his third Pro Bowl appearance. Lewan is also good friends with Bills veteran guard Richie Incognito, a guy he spent a lot of time with Pro Bowl week.

"Just to learn from all these guys, watch the way they operate,'' Lewan said. "It's a chance to get in their minds and pick up some things I can use for next year and try and turn it into a great season."

At week's end, Thomas said he enjoyed hanging around Lewan. He even invited him to appear for a segment on his television show in Cleveland.

A first-round pick by the Titans in the 2014 NFL Draft, Lewan was one of the game's highest-graded tackles all season on an offensive line that allowed just 24 quarterbacks sacks while paving the way for the NFL's third-ranked rushing attack, led by DeMarco Murray, who finished with an AFC best 1,287 rushing yards.

He made a nice impression on Thomas.

"He's a great guy,'' Thomas said of Lewan "I love Taylor's personality. I think he is a very fun guy. His football game is awesome -- obviously he had a great year. But I remember him as a rookie. I watched his technique and I thought he had really good technique even then. He had really good pass sets, and it seemed like he really figured it out this year and he's turned himself into an awesome player."
