LB Cody Barton

You talk confidently about the talent. The scoreboard in these three games says you don't have the talent that matches up with these three teams. So what makes you see it?

Just from the time I've been here from OTAs and camp and just what we have now, I believe in the players. We have the talent. It's just, like I said, we've got to put it together. And coming from the defensive side, it's winning on first down to second down and getting third-and-long. That's huge for us to get in those situations. For the offense, it's being efficient on first and second down to get in third-and-manageable. You know what I mean? That's just the way I see the game. It's got to be a team cohesive thing in playing complementary football.

We heard a lot of boos being seemingly directed at your head coach. How did that make you feel?

I don't listen to the outside noise. I don't pay attention to it. People have their opinions, people can boo, whatever they want. And you know it doesn't feel good to get booed at your home stadium, but it's something that I've always taken with me is you don't listen to the outside noise and outside the facility walls, the stadium walls. You know, it's always about the team. And so, like I said, we've just got to get to be able to come together as a team and do what we need to do.

Did you guys meet a little bit longer today than usual? We didn't get to see the coach until longer. Did you have a little longer session in here after the game than normal?

Yeah, there was, and I'm not going to speak too much on it, but just, he's saying some of the things that I'm saying. It's just as a team, we need to come together as a team. I'll leave it like that.

Was it players or was it coach and players?

I'm not going to sit here and point fingers at anybody, you know. I want to watch the film first, but just like I've said numerous times now, we're going to win and lose as a team, coaches included. We're all in this together, and so we're going to win and lose the team.

They had a timeout, you had a timeout and then you took a delay of game on that field goal. He said he was still deciding about whether to kick a field goal or not. What kind of message does that send to you guys that he can't make a decision in that span of time?

Doesn't really send a message to us, it's just, he owned up to that, you know? I don't know necessarily what the decision was, like obviously we took the delay, which we didn't want in that situation. But he owned it up to that, and that's it.

Does it seem like he's owning up to a lot in the first three games?

Yeah, he is. He's the first one, accountability-wise, to own up to mistakes. And I respect that.

Do you still believe in him?

I do. I do believe in him.

Aren't there a lot of mistakes to account for from a head coaching position in the first three weeks?

Yeah, there is, but there's also — the head coach can't win the game himself. It takes all of us, you know what I mean? When the defense is on there, there's 11 of us on the field, and the coach is making the call. There's more than just the head coach, you know what I mean?
