TITANS VICTORIOUS IN CLEVELAND
The Titans battled the Browns last week in Cleveland on a 33-degree afternoon with snow flurries. The Titans running game, led by running back Tony Pollard, accounted for 184 yards, which was the team's best rushing total in a game since a 184-yard collective rushing effort against Houston on Dec. 24, 2022. Pollard established a career high with 161 rushing yards and scored two touchdowns, leading the Titans to a 31-29 win.
Rookie quarterback Cam Ward complemented the running game with 117 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns. He found rookie wide receivers Elic Ayomanor (14-yard touchdown) and Chimere Dike (five yards) for scores.
Meanwhile, safety Xavier Woods notched his second interception of the season, and linebacker Cedric Gray recovered a fumble that was forced by rookie cornerback Marcus Harris. The Titans also got a big play from linebacker James Williams Sr., who recorded the team's first blocked punt since Tim Shaw on Oct. 11, 2012. The two takeaways and the blocked punt led to 17 total points for the Titans.
THE 49ERS
The 49ers, who are in a heated battle for the NFC West, will have extra time to prepare for the Titans after enjoying a Week 14 bye. Prior to their bye, they won three consecutive games, including a 26-8 defeat of the Browns in Week 13. Despite currently sitting in third place in their division, they are only a game behind a pair of 10-3 teams, which are the first-place Los Angeles Rams and second-place Seattle Seahawks.
Quarterback Brock Purdy has started five games this season, missing a total of eight weeks due to injuries. He has been in the lineup for the past three contests, and at Cleveland, he completed 16-of-29 passes for 168 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan is in his ninth season with the 49ers. He has led the team to four playoff berths (2019, 2021-23), three division titles (2019, 2022-23) and two Super Bowl appearances (2019, 2023). In each case in which the 49ers have made the playoffs under Shanahan, they have advanced to at least the NFC Championship Game.
