DT Jeffery Simmons

On how wild the finish was:

"It was wild. We talk about resilience. We talk about a team that can finish in the fourth quarter, and the message at halftime (was) 'Somebody just has to make a play. Don't wait on anybody else, and make a play. Go out there and make a play. Everybody do their job.' Of course, I pay attention and a guy who (has) been working his tail off, from injuries to getting back into that feel of football, (CB L'Jarius) Sneed. That play changed the football game. With him making that play running down maybe sixty yards… That type of play that shows what we talk about as a team, our culture, our foundation, and what we build this team on. That right there changed the game. That's a good team win, we deserve that. That play in the end zone with (WR Tyler) Lockett… things like that just fell in our hands. You wish for plays like that, and it just so happened to happen for us. Today, that was a good win and it feels good to actually win a football game."

On how he feels talking about a win vs another loss:

"It's a relief. We talk about just learning, finding a way to finish games, (and) finding a way to make a play. I think that's what we talk about. We've been talking about it… just fight to the end and we showed that today. Shoutout to even the special teams plays. Things like that change games. To be able to get a turnover and take care of the ball in 'two minutes' (two-minute situations). We worked the hell out of 'two minutes' (on) Thursday. We worked two minutes in the game. We talk about being good in situational football and I think that showed today. In 'two minutes' (QB) Cam (Ward) went down, had a hell of a drive, (found) 'Rid' (WR Calvin Ridley) on the sideline, and set it up for (K) Joey (Slye). It feels good as hell to finally get a win."

On what he said to QB Cam Ward before the final drive:

"Right when they scored that last drive, I told him, 'We're going to get you this ball back. We're going to get you this ball back and you (are) going to put it in the endzone.' All he said was, 'I got you.' We got him the ball, and they did what they did on the offensive side. I told him, 'That's why we drafted you (with the) number one overall pick.' His calmness, his poise in that pocket like that… I don't know how many rookie quarterbacks could have that type of poise when the game comes down to him. He knew it, the ball was in his hands and he did a hell of a job of controlling that offense and getting us down to be able to kick that field goal to win."

On what the defensive unit said to each other:

"I don't know if y'all saw it, but even after the turnover we had… when our offense turned over the ball… we talked about it through the week. We have to be better with sudden change and that's one thing we did a hell of a job with today. Being able to go out there on the field… we knew our offense needed the ball back (so) we huddled up right before we went on the field and we talked about it. We're going to get on the sideline, everybody take a deep breath, go out there, do their job and get the ball back to our offense. That's just what we've been talking about pretty much this whole week. Last week, the offense turned over the ball and we ended up going on defense and giving up a touchdown. This whole week we've been just talking about keeping composure, everyone just doing their job and go put the fire out. We did a hell of a job with that."

On Ward turning it up in the fourth quarter after struggling throughout the game:

"I was focused on my job. This is a team game. I don't know why he was struggling, but the overall thing is he went down, had a hell of a drive in the fourth quarter, and got a score. It's always a lot to fix and always a lot of things that we could get better at, but the overall message was we got a win. He did a hell of a job getting the offense in position down there to kick that field goal."

On how this win can help springboard them and give the guys confidence:

"Winning solves everything. When you win a football game in the National Football League, that builds confidence. I think us winning today shows guys that we can win in this league even when we were down 21-6 going into the fourth quarter. Nobody stopped believing. We kept believing in each other and (knew)

everyone was going to do their job when it really mattered. I think that's what we talked about… that blind trust. Our guy (Air-Force pilot Jacob) 'Primo' (Impellizzeri) was there. We've been watching his documentary with them flying and whatnot. It's that blind trust that everyone is going to do their job, especially in the fourth quarter. That's what we've been talking about. It feels good as hell to finally get a win."

On what he felt when he saw the field goal go in:

"A relief. We know how hard it is in this league (to get a win). With (Titans K) Joey (Slye), I'm sure he never wants to miss a kick. That's one guy that I see working his tail off. I've never seen a kicker work his tail off as (much as) Joey. In the weight room to on the field, Joey works his ass off. It came down to him and I had faith in him. I knew Joey was going to put that ball through the uprights. I told him, 'it's going to come down to you and you're going to put it in the uprights.' The belief in him to go out there and make that kick was a relief. The message was 1-0 and we finally got a win."

On what the win does for the coaching staff:

"I think it builds confidence for them as well. Like I said, winning takes care of everything and when you can have a staff who can come in, make adjustments, make sure they (are) calling the right plays and putting guys in position to be able to make the plays… I'm sure (head coach Brian) Callahan probably had something to do with that two-minute drive as well. He's the head coach and of course we all know he was calling the plays. I'm sure that that was a team effort from (the) top-down. Hopefully that could help build confidence not just (with) the players, but the coaches as well."
