Coach Fisher's Veteran Minicamp Report

**

HEAD COACH JEFF FISHER**

(on if he was nervous being in the bubble for practice today)

**

No, not at all. It was a very, very unfortunate situation that happened in Dallas. It was well documented. The injuries that were associated with the collapse were very severe and the league is saddened by that. I guess we are fortunate that there was not an entire team in there. We do an annual inspection here in this facility. Our annual inspection is due in the first week of June. We are on top of everything. It is a completely different structure, no issues, no concerns as far as our indoor facility is concerned.

(on the disappoint associated with the playoff loss and whether it was a long time getting to this day)

**

No, not necessarily. The offseason program started in mid-March and most everybody reported. So they have been working and the coaches have had interaction with them. They have been in the building, on the field and in the weight room and doing the work. It is good. This is our second session and overall I'm pleased. The condition level is good, the strength, the quickness, the speed. The commitment is all there. The way that our game is now May and June are so important. We are right where we should be. We have a few people that have some minor issues because we increased the workload over the last couple weeks, minor muscle things rather, but other than that we are in good shape.

(on familiar faces not being around anymore)

**

That is one side, those that are not here, but we also have new faces. We had 18 or 19 new faces last weekend which we got excited about and I know they are going to be excited about it. It is good to see the guys that we signed during the offseason come out and already have a good feel of the offense like Nate [Washington] running routes and doing the things we expected him to do.

(on how hotly contested the number two quarterback battle will be)

**

We brought [Patrick] Ramsey in here just to give him an opportunity because there is probably a good chance that we will keep three quarterbacks this year. He has a real good feel for Mike's [Heimerdinger] offense having the experience in Denver. Right now they are slotted Kerry [Collins] is one, Vince [Young] is two and Patrick is three.

(on the philosophy to keep three quarterbacks)

**

It changes the last couple of years, but the roster is different. There are no guarantees, but I think it is worthy of consideration. I think you will be surprised as to what he will be able to do.

(on whether the defense will change philosophy with Albert Haynesworth gone)

**

No, we are going to continue doing the same things that we have done. We played a lot of games and won a lot of games without Albert and we didn't change anything then. We are just going to continue that. We will have a good solid rotation and depth and we will continue to put pressure on the quarterback and stop the run.

(on the development of Jason Jones)

**

He has been here and obviously players make their biggest improvement from year one to year two. Jason certainly had an impact as a rookie. He is going to take advantage of this offseason to gain strength, quickness and a better understanding of what he is doing.

(on Rafael Little)

**

You have to take into consideration that we are not in pads, but from a commitment and work ethic and the things he has done, it looks like he has the knee behind him and he will be competing for a spot. He is a very talented, young back and actually is just starting his rookie year.

(on the competition at running back)

**

It is deep. The numbers are good. We need the numbers going into camp. Look around the league and look what happened last year, you just can't have enough.

(on how important it is that the team is well conditioned)

**

It allows you to approach training camp differently. That is what we did a little bit last year with the reduction of the roster size. We reduced some of the number of two-a-days and the contact practices particularly because we were in such good shape when we came to camp.

(on the change from how training camp used to be where players got in shape)

**

Theoretically everything has changed, the fitness components, the training, all those things have changed. This has become a year-round thing for players. They typically take a couple months off and unwind, but they bring it right back. It allows us to change the content of training camp.

(on whether Christian Morton caught his eye)

**

Yes. The defense made some plays. We have a good group of corners, guys that have been working here. The staff has done a good job with them up to this point.

(on the absence of Keith Bulluck and Tony Brown)

**

Keith and Tony were excused for personal reasons.

(on the comments LenDale White made about his commitment following the Ravens loss)

**

He came in and reported for the offseason program significantly lighter than he has up to this point. That is a step. If you saw practice he seems to be quicker, fast and in good shape.

(on the chatter about him this offseason)

**

He has just been working, just like the rest of them. He has been a teammate working out and working hard.

(on Chuck Cecil as the defensive coordinator)

**

I'm completely comfortable. He worked very, very closely with Jim [Schwartz] and we are not changing anything. I think he shocked the offense Monday and blitzed four out of the first five team snaps and caught Dinger off guard. He settled back into a normal mode today.

(on the importance of chemistry)

**

It has been one of the reasons for our success the last few years. It started to come together during that 0-5 stretch that we had three years ago and we have been able to maintain it because of the personalities on this team.
