Coach Fisher's Tuesday Training Camp Report

HEAD COACH JEFF FISHER

(on the competition for the running back position behind Chris Johnson)

I'm really looking forward to watching, first off, Javon (Ringer) take care of the football. If you recall, he had a successful training camp last year. So we'll have to see where he's at and then, of course, try to get enough carries for everybody. It's a hard thing to do, but, realistically, CJ doesn't need a lot of carries. We'll get him a couple touches, and we'll get him out. So there should be plenty to go around, but the competition's good right now.

(on if he has decided how long starters will play in the first preseason game)

It'll probably follow the lines of the last few years. Starters will play, depending on the number of plays, just roughly a quarter. Some of them will play a little fewer; some will play a little bit more, and we'll start rotating.

(on if Leroy Harris brings a physical aspect to the line)

It does. He's got great center of balance and strength, lower body strength. He moves well; he finishes well. So it does. It makes us stout, if you will, up front. He can push piles, yet he has the quickness and the athletic ability to pull and be successful at that.

(on Alterraun Verner going out of practice)

He came back in. He finished and had a couple reps at the end. But we went down in numbers today, so I cut practice short. No sense in wearing the rest of the guys out. We've got a long week ahead of us. But we'll be OK.

(on Vincent Fuller's apparent injury during practice Tuesday)

I don't have an update on him right now until I get inside. We'll check it out. I don't think there's much to be concerned about, with the exception of maybe William (Hayes).

(on Cortland Finnegan's status)

Cort's probably a few days away. He's got a little groin hip flexor thing going on. We're just going to make sure that he's 100 percent before he comes back.

(on if Cortland Finnegan will play in the first preseason game on Saturday)

I'd say he's probably questionable right now.

(on the intensity of Tuesday's practice)

The purpose of today was we talked about having a good practice today, and we did. It was a physical practice, despite the fact that we came in (inside). I thought we got a lot done.

(on the difference Jason Jones can make on the defense)

He got off to a great start the second half of his rookie season. He was off to a good start (in 2009) before he hurt his shoulder, and he's back to where he was. You assume he's going to be much improved over his rookie year. We'll just have to wait and see.
