Coach Fisher's Friday Practice Report

**

HEAD COACH JEFF FISHER**

(on how he feels about Rusty Smith after a full week of practice with the starting offense)

I have no issues with Rusty.  He's ready to play and excited to play well.

(on how Chris Simms has done since returning to the team)

**He's picked everything up.  He's a football guy and he's been in the system twice now.  He doesn't have any problems with the system.  He just didn't get a lot of reps.

(on what it means to the team to have Mike Heimerdinger for Sunday's game)

**It is certainly a boost after they found the news.  That's what Mike's about, he knows what is ahead, he knows that things are going to start on Monday and he feels good enough to come out there and help us win the ball game.

(on if Kerry Collins is making progress in his rehab for his calf injury)

Yeah, he's making progress.

(on the injury report)

18 (Kenny Britt), no practice, out; 97 (Tony Brown), no practice, questionable; 98 (Dave Ball), no practice, questionable; five, (Kerry Collins), no practice, questionable; 91 (Jason Jones), no practice, questionable; two (Rob Bironas), no practice, probable; 88 (Craig Stevens), limited practice, probable.

(on why Lavelle Hawkins was not at practice today)

He was excused for personal reasons.

(on if there is any scenario where they would activate a practice squad defensive lineman due to injuries)

No, we're in good shape.

(on if he's worried about his defensive line depth)

No, we've had the luxury of having eight for so long.  We've gone games and years with only seven.

(on what he sees in the Houston Texans)

Just a very, very explosive offense, a run game with one of the better backs in the league right now, they run it well.  They complement it with great play action, they've got weapons outside.  They're very well coached on special teams.  They have a great front seven.  They're secondary has given up plays at times, like every secondary has, but they're clearly in a must-win situation.

(on how Texans running back Arian Foster has gotten to 1,000 yards this season)

He's making people miss, breaking tackles.  In their scheme, when you have 80 (Andre Johnson) lined up outside, you're going to get plenty of opportunities.

(on if they will name another team captain with Vince Young being out the rest of the season) **

Yeah, I'm going to address that next week.  I usually pick an additional captain each week based on their performance the week before.

(on who will be the added captain this week)

I inform them before kickoff.

(on the Titans still having plenty to play for despite facing recent adversity)

We started the week off saying we're a game out of first place.  We've got six left and five of them are against the division, so every game is very important right now.
